For people's information.

The 4.0 v6 petrol and the 2.7 tdv6 brake discs and calliper carriers are the same product.

If people are wanting to "downgrade" then this is the route Eric and I are working on.
You will need the 17 inch alloys from a tdv6 model which I've sourced for Eric and will be collecting for him and shipping out in the next couple of weeks.

Given how people use the tdv6 set up in Australia with the ARB bumpers, winches, off road protection and touring kit, I don't see there being much in the braking and if it's good enough for them to be used, it's good enough for other markets.
The set up uses the same callipers and brake pads, it's just a change of brake disc size that changes.

Tire Choice

So Alan is working my 17" wheel purchase from the great land overseas. Meanwhile, I am in the process of shopping for my TDV6 brake parts..........(Lucky8, please answer emails).....: coffee:

On a side note, I am looking at the Cooper STT Pro LT255/75/R17 for my tire choice. I went online to the online tire size calculator/comparison to check out my gains and losses, and this is what I came up with. Anyone with knowledge and constructive criticism, please pipe in and help a brother out if you see some issues with my selection. I am looking to start the ordering through Amazon Prime in the coming weeks for my new rubber.

Tire Size Comparison site. (I am sure it is not 100% accurate, but measurements on my current wheels is pretty darn close!

If you Facebook may find it faster to hit Erik up there-that's typically how I communicate with them and he is pretty responsive.

It says those tires are actually 31.89" in diameter, so I think they should do fine. I'm running the BFG KO2 in a 275/65/18 (32") and the only place I have any rubbing at all is the coolant hose area in the rear passenger wheel well. Of course, I have an '06 with the early style bolt on frame horns, so if yours are the welded type, you may get some rubbing there. The only real issue I see with your tire choice is that they are C rated tires. I like the extra sidewall protection of the E rated tires (which seem to be every other size of STT Pros)

Ahhhhh, yes you are correct. I'm going to see if I can find an E rate in that size. I actually plugged it in off a Jeep since I knew the size and maybe that is why it came up. Are you saying they only make "C" rate in the 255/75R17? If so, that's gonna have me moving onto a different tire I think.

Looks like if I go 275/70R17 I'm getting an increase to a 32" and another .8" on the width but with an "E" load rating.

That might cause some issues. Are you running any lift? I have GAP and looking at LLAMS to allow for dedicated lift but nothing drastic.

My goal is to stay as close to factory width as possible. I have a spacer set up now but would prefer to ditch that if I can when I go to the 17" wheel set up. This is the comparison with the 265/70R17 configuration. Although Cooper states this size tire is 10.8" wide so I would be getting wider most likely due to the larger mud lug. If went any wider of a tire such as 275 or 285, I would be gettting into turn radius issues and need much more lift as I would be over 32" tire.

Side X Side Comparison of Cooper STT Pro and BFG Mud-Terrain T/A KM2

I believe these are my two favorite choices. As stated the goal is to have high quality proven MT tire that will not let me down. I believe BFG has a reputation that stands tall amongst anything ever built for the years and miles they have covered. However, Cooper is no slouch either and to be honest they save me a bit of money in the end when I have to buy 5....haha.

These are Specs on both tires directly off their respective websites.

So I am getting a pretty nasty whine from under the hood and the Low Power Mode is coming on the stereo. My best guess until I get the GAP Tool on it tonight is most likely the alternator is about to depart the building.

Anyone have recommendations on what is a good upgrade for the LR3 alternator system. I will be running Traxide Dual Battery in a new future, just have not installed it yet but its on the parts shelf in the carport.

Just looking for Alternator upgrades or potential ideas on the major whine and radio noise.

Mahaloz,

E

RE: alternator I would carry a spare. Otherwise when we all had alternator failures a few months back I had to get a flatbed tow while my twin had enough juice between his two batteries to get home. Definitely something to think about, I really wished I had added that second battery when I was waiting on that tow truck...

Bonus for us is that at least our alternators are not hard to change.

Alternator-- I found a great replacement 250a for 239.00 so carry a spare new one!!!!

Does anyone have a sense of the noise on the Cooper versus the Nitto Terra Grappler?

Yes-- that is it-- Very good quality-- FYI-- it states on the label, this Alternator comes with a $30.00 overdrive pulley. Do not remove it. If you experience any belt squeal you may need a 1" shorter belt. I have not experienced any squeal. It actually seems better than the pictures. I also ordered 1" shorter belt-- I haven't tested it yet. -- Tested and failed-- use a new factory spec belt (link deleted)

My plan was to maybe put a kit together and offer it. Anyway- the only part I used from the old one with 160k on it was the big nut, rather than the nut and lock washer that comes with it.

Posted a couple pictures of the unit, and unit compared to old one on my FB page. While you are at it, like and share this one too please.

I can't compare the Cooper to my Terra grapplers but I used a decibel meter from the factory Perrelli to Nitto and there was almost no change. I have zero tire noise as far as I'm concerned. Just not a great tire for punctures on rooted or sharp rock areas as I believe the sidewall is too soft.

I'll be going to Duratrac for the 18" everyday wheels once these Nittos are used up and Cooper STT PRO for my 17" wheel mud tire set up.

Hope that helps.
