Ok so work on the build has slowed to a crawl, life gets in the way. But that’s the best part, that means I’m making money so now the wheels turn. After work or the weekend is the best time because I hang out and watch tv and drink beer in the garage even though it’s hot as hell. I usually Black the truck up and open it up to just stare and brainstorm. For informations sake I have two 10in subs in the back in a fiberglassed rear quarter that I’ve built onto to make a storage cabinet using the space by the rear quarter windows that normally would not be used. But I think I’m going to downgrade to a couple of 8 in subs and move them into my center console, so I can rework my sub box and use it for storage, also, Thinking about a removable, sleeping platform/drawer system. I’m actually a woodworker so this part actually plays really well for me, it’s going to be very light, but abnormally strong and completely removable. Since this is my daily and work truck, all of these factors will play into the design. And really it may never get removed and still handle my tools and supplies for work with no issues, and be able to deal with my overlanding equipment. Stay tuned....

That rear bumper turned out really nice. I just did the exact same thing with my Expedition.

Awesome! Coincidentally my next project will probably be an Excursion, I’ve done a lil short overlanding in a 2017 expedition, not a Ford fan but I think the Excursion platform is near perfect, gotta find me one.

It’s hot as hell here in Texas so I’m trying to do some little things to help her breathe a lil easier. First thing was to remove the rubber splash shields in the wheel wells and then I modified my front aluminum splash shield by cutting some holes into it to let some air move through it so it can atleast help to keep her cool

Drove the old girl to Weslaco got here at 2 this morning good lil 8 1/2 hour drive then off to South Padre Island. She ran like a top at 75 and still wanted to go faster or maybe that was me

Thank you sir, I’m workin on it, we’ll have been for a couple years now, there is so much more that I’ve done to it than my build post shows so far, I’ll be adding some details and more pictures pretty soon

This past week I noticed it getting hot which isn’t surprising since we’ve been hitting 104 or better the past couple weeks. I Decided to restructure my cooling system, the dual Efans just weren’t cutting it. So I took out the shroud I had made and mounted them directly to the radiator and reinstalled the original 11 blade fan and shroud and changed out my coolant and put in a new thermostat while I was at it. Also with the excess heat I noticed she wasn’t charging like normal so I went ahead and pulled the alternator off and took it to swap since it has a lifetime warranty. While doing this I noticed the alternator wire which is 0 gauge sounded crunchy? Almost Like crumpling a piece of paper. So I took it off and examined it, I guess with all the heat it was frying the other alternator and the cable

bad cables can lead to so many issues , i would go through all the ground cables and straps to make sure they are in good order and the connections are clean . It's never a bad idea to add some extra ground cables especially if your adding a lot of electrical draw to the system .

bought a 4 runner some years ago that was in really awsome shape but was always sluggish feeling once you got up in the rpm range , did all the normal things , t chain , tune up , cat , o2 sensors , coil but nothing changed the sluggishness. fast forward a couple weeks I was fiddling around with some other stuff and noticed one of the ground straps on the block was crummy looking so I went ahead and replaced all the ground straps and added a couple more down the frame to the body and bam !!! ran like a charm with way more power and I got another 3 mpg out of it . I think what lead to the ground strap failure is the kid I bought it from had a huge stereo system in it and with that constant overdrawing on the stock charging system it lead to the wires getting hot .
so long story short if your rig is used give them cables a look and it's cheap insurance to replace them .

Trust me I know, mine had a dumb kid owner before me and basically ran this truck into the ground before I got it. these old 90’s Yukon Tahoe’s and truck are real finicky about the grounds, all mine are done with 0 gauge cables and I check them all the time, it was really the heat that caused this cable to overheat, because of lack of airflow through the engine compartment, it’s since been changed and now it’s charging like it’s supposed to and running good. I will be adding another ground direct from alternator to frame though, you’re right extra cables never hurt nobody! Thanks man
