Its quite a step for me to say this but
thx a lot ;-)
Now throw that rack on there.....go somewhere and take some photos that show us how that honey looks
that's the plan
easy for me to say, huh?
really easy for you to say. closest off-road park is 1.5 hours away - and i bet it's not exciting... :-(
O yeah....promise me when you're finished trashing it you won't sell it to someone who makes a trailer out of it.......
ok, ok, but i have to say a fife-door trailer matching the tow rig would look awesome :)))))))
maybe i have to photoshop that one day :)

i ended up with 35"12.5R17 cooper on 17/8 pro comp...

everything is difficult in germany...
in order to get the tires approved i had to make sure they would not stick out (even a hair) over the fenders.
to make that work i installed some wider flares from xenon. i like that they are rubber and won't brake when running them into a rock like the bushwackers do...

There is no instructions on how to take off the stock flares, so figuring that out is the biggest challenge. After all, I didn't want to mess up the sheet metal. Once the inner fender is removed, the outer pops off easily. The plastic mounting clips broke during this process, but they are not needed any longer.
The inner fender is temporarily put in place to be marked for trimming at the sheet metal edge.
The Xenon fender simply gets bolted on with the provided hardware. Then the inner fender is attached.

The rear flares get mounted accordingly, only that the existing holes need to be drilled out slightly and revit nuts are installed with a provided tool.

The provided tool proves a little soft and wares out quickly. Another pair of hands is very helpful for the installation of the revits!
Then the flares can be bolted on. The entire installation took me about six hours.

and some pics are here:

I've seen those flares on Xenons website but couldn't find a picture of them mounted to a truck, they look great, similar to TJ fenders but on a JK.

Hey man,

Love reading about your JK. I'm in Colombia right now with my TJ traveling with a guy with a Range Rover Defender totally fitted for over landing with sink, fridge, water, roof tent, interior bed, cupboards etc, etc, etc.

We've been talking vehicles for weeks now, and I'd love to build a JK for my next project.

I have a favor to ask - I'd love to know the interior dimensions of the 4 door JK to compare it's potential to a Range Rover or Land Cruiser - can you please run a tape measure over it and tell me:
1. The interior height from the floor to the hard top
2. The internal width of the hardtop
3. The internal length from the back of the drivers seat to the tailgate (I'd be getting rid of the back seats entirely and want to know if it's long enough for a decent bed)

Thanks so much,
Keep building :)

On the rack of the XJ there is what looks like a 4" ABS Pipe.. what is that for ? I would imagine fishing poles... or is it one of those water heaters ?

If it is in fact the water heater, did it work ?

neither nor :)
i had the black one on all the time. i had a tarp rolled up and some tent poles to use as an awning (or tent when raining hard and extremely hot and muggy in Oz - see pic below)
the white pipe i used down under was for add'l water, but i didn't get it tight enough and always lost a bit, which was fine since i always carried more than enough...

i have never liked the fact that i had to open the hood to get to my air...
so i installed a 'convenient air connect' ;-)

i ran a hose from the compressor to the windshield and ran a fitting through a hole i drilled.
and here we go:

a cap protects the fitting:
