I think a good quality indicator is if a winch is hydraulic, or if it is an electric version of a winch that is also hydraulic, it probably has high quality. Although there are many quality electric only winches.

I got my Warn M8000 from 4wheelonline. It comes with a free synthetic rope which is more flexible and light in weight compared to a steel cable. So far, my M8000 never fails me.

FYI, most of our winches now use Albright contactors, with the exception of the VR line, the XD9000i, the 16.5ti, and the M8274-50.

Pretty easy to replace the stock solenoid pack with one; I did on my 1978 8274.
