Question on imported G colors...

ive seen some sort of forest green, and a type of gray/purple and a sort of midnight blue. mb colors, in general, are depressing.
the issue is, knowing if they were post 2004.
are you planning on modifications like your d90? if so do some research on the stability system, it hates lifts with big tires, and while i believe they have been able to handle it in the STAR system on 02's and possibly 03's, im not certain about 04's. P3 has a thread by fernweh or 4x4abc, detailing the methodology they discovered.
your best, easy to find resources will be

i found these guys generous with their time and knowledge.
dutch is able to navigate the VIN records quite adeptly. 1/3 of the cost of an MB must be overhead on the record keeping they do. when i needed new panels for mine, the body shop was flabbergasted that MB wanted to know what that truck was doing in the USA, and i had to provide proof of ownership, because it was a re-VINed Europa import.
i'd suggest a 2000 if extensive modifications are in the cards. it just appears to be more hassle free.

Actually, there is a large color selection for G-wagen's.... outside the US. You can get them in all kinds of colors. And then, you can order them in any "off the menu" color you can find, with a color swatch.
Meanwhile, here in the US, the color selection is tightly controlled, and focused to preserve that high end image that rappers and movie stars and the average American associate with Mercedes. I know a guy who bought a brand spanking new 2004 G500 (in late 2003), his second brand new G500 (first was a 2002 purchased from the same dealer), and actually had to get a regional sales director's approval to order it in the same dark metallic green color that was shown in the brochure.... they didn't want him to order it in anything other than silver, black, or white. They finally agreed to it after he applied some force... but that just goes to show how MBUSA manages their brand here.
BMW does the same thing. You can order any BMW, whether it's a standard 3-series or an M5 or whatever, in the rest of the world using the Individual program to specify any color of your choice. But in the US, the Individual program is not advertised, and if you ask about it at a dealer, they wrinkle their noses and try to pretend it doesn't exist. The story goes that BMW "cancelled" (highly discouraged) the Individual program for the US after having some customers demand their money back and walk away from their brand new BMW's on delivery day when they didn't like the color they ordered, on the car..... not surprising.
I have a G500 in one of the "non-standard" colors, and I love it. People tell me all the time that it's an awesome color for the G, and I agree.

Not really sure what you guys are looking for.....? Those are pretty much the standard colors that the large majority of cars are sold in.
Occasionally you'll get something wacky like a lime green or a sunburst yellow offered on a car.... but these are flagship Mercedes 4x4's, not Mazda Miata's. I don't know for sure but I don't believe Escalade's come in bright yellow, and I don't think Range Rover's come in dayglow orange. Then again, maybe they do.
And of course, if you're going to spend $100,000 on a brand new G, I'm sure you can flex your financial muscle and get it delivered in whichever color your wife desires. But if you're buying a 10 year old one, and looking for that holy grail of lower mileage, excellent condition and extensive maintenance history, as well as 100% stock, you aren't going to be able to be that picky. They didn't sell a ton of these things, to begin with.
As for spray-on plastic... if you're going to spend $30-40k on a G500, it's gonna take some balls to rattlecan it. Better you than me.
