Noticed they have a new website, with photos building
of the prototype.

Not in production yet, still looking for investors.

Do you have to cut the tail gate in half for the door?

Looks that way, some great ideas I see...still needs some refining, I think.

You could mimic it with a regular camper shell, there is a lift system for wheel chairs out there.
Not super elegant, you could refine the lift system further.

The website says that the next version will have an integrated rear hatch.

I think it has promise. I really like how it is not the awful fake wood veneer and trashy particleboard interior like most RVs and campers. This is probably too quirky to ever sell well, but it has real promise and I wish the designer all the success.

I do like how clean it looks when it is closed, can't even tell it is camper. Seems rather roomy when open.

I've sat in this camper and it is very nice - very roomy for the size. The roof could be designed to handle kayaks or bicycles and would not need to be unloaded when popping the top up.

I always thought it could just use a fabric door for the back end with the standard tailgate folded down - seems like it would simplify the design/manufacturing and allow selling it for a lower price.

The only other issue with it is that the sprinter van came on the market about the same time which gives better gas mileage and allowed hauling of bicycles/motorcycles inside - at least on the older 5 cylinder version. With the new higher gas mileage trucks hitting the market and the sprinters getting bigger & more expensive - perhaps this idea is viable again.

The new Ford 2.7 ecoboost (est 30 mpg) or the new Dodge diesel, would be a good combo with that camper.

One detail not obvious on this is that the bed is located cross ways in the back of the bed - up against the truck cab - its actually up at the table height instead of the normal seat height as with most dinette / bed combos. This leaves the seats and area under the table available for storing items and the area at the front end of the camper by the door open to stand up in and access the kitchen & frig. Its a very nice part of the design not possible with traditional pop-up type campers where the bed is typically long ways due to the limited width of the camper.

I saw this thing in person years ago and thought it was pretty cool. I'm not convinced there is anything new on the website. What makes us think there is any new development going on here? The truck is a 2001 and I'm pretty sure that's the one we saw back then.

Don't think there is anything new about the camper itself. New website is all, he did add some pictures of the building process though.

It looks to me like it would be a big challenge to seal out the wind when in the camper mode, and the dust in the travel configuration. If those issues were well solved-I would be very interested.

He is needing to get this thing up and in production/sales. If it has been around better than a decade, it is not a long time until intellectual property rights expire??
