Ford's axles are likely one of it's strongest selling points vs Dodge. Rear elocker in my 10.5 has been flawless. Front high pinion Dana 60 will get a Yukon Grizz locker when funds allow (responsively).

Expect to go up one step in gears with a Ford 6.2. 4.56 vs 4.88 with 35-37" tires? Might be debate-able in the Dodge, but always go 4.88 with the gas Ford.

Bit of digging found this...

I just hope there is more aftermarket support for the Dana than the sterling.
While the sterling is/was a great axle, aftermarket support was pitiful.

Pretty sure that's changed. A wrecked Ford Superduty is a solid gold find in any junkyard. Those are the donor axles of choice now, for off road only jeeps, buggies, etc. etc. I know there's a Detroit, Yukon Grizz, ARB, and Elocker for the 10.5 for sure.

The M275 has nothing yet. And there we're a few warranty axles in the first few batches. I wouldn't go out of your way to try to spec the M275 in a 250. Or if you do, order it with the OEM Elocker. Because nothing is out there for it. Yet. I actually made sure my truck had the old 10.5 axle in it, and avoided the M275.

I won't buy another Jeep until I have a 10.5 with OEM elocker, and a D60 sourced from a junkyard for my axle guy to cut down and re gear. Way cheaper than Currie anything.

Wouldn't a differential failure be on AAM not FCA?

Probably is, but at that point my anger should have been directed at the dealership I’m in the process of dealing with. The fact I dropped it off on Wednesday as scheduled, and was told it would be done in a day, and as of Friday it hadn’t been touched is what made me mad. The transmission issue is on FCA though.

It may be done tomorrow, but I won’t hold my breath. They were supposed to have ordered all of the parts two weeks ago, but I have the feeling that didn’t happen.

Dealers and service writers suck. Make sure you mention all of that in the survey. Give the survey poor results in each category. Might be better if techs made their own schedules and ordered their own parts.

Do whatever you can to find a private shop when your warranty is up.

Trust me I will. The service writer I got is horrible. I’ve just started requesting the service supervisor and manager now. I’m guessing the service writer I got is not their best person based on the conversations we have had.

I tend to do most non-major stuff (transmission, major engine repairs, etc.) work myself once out of warranty.

Dana 60 HP, 1550 joints, and sealed unit bearings. Should be a non issue on the Ford, now. Mine have 170,000 miles, and are fine.

Is there something wrong with unit bearings on the Dodges?

when i get the 37s in just a couple weeks, ill do a report on the factory 4.10 pairing.
I believe ill be just fine as soon as these diablo PCMs become available.

I towed a 9klb enclosed trailer to Northern Arkansas a few weeks ago with my Power Wagon on 37's, it held the speed limit with the cruise control on the entire way. It was running in mostly 5th but sometimes 4th on the flats at like 3300RPM/75mph or so, but it definitely was not struggling. With different gears this thing would be a monster, but it's a totally competent hauler as is.

My hub bearings lasted 100,000 miles, or around there in my 2004 3500

Without notice , one side siezed up and the truck wouldn't move......flat bed tow truck

I had both sides replaced and they lasted 25,000 miles, before the drive side failed and caused $5,000 in damage when the rotor, hub, caliper and wheel tore off the truck doing about 50 mph

Ford's do freeze up but to a lesser degree. The Dodge shop I use installs Dynatracs on Ford with oversize tires and lots of offroad use.
I guess Ford uses a vacuum assisted setup that can fail according to the owner and the shop. Stuff happens.
Mine were like new at 70K when I went with Dynatracs. The shop's good about donating used but in good shape components to hard luck cases coming in the door.
A frozen hub can have catastrophic consequences.

The vacuum on the Fords does nothing. It just pulls the 4x4 hubs in. Most of us replace those with manual Warn Hubs.

Has nothing to do with the unit hub bearing.

What grease are you running in your hubs?
