Got my truck back from the dealership earlier this week. They ended up replacing the rear differential case, bearings, and seals. I’m not sure it fixed the problem 100% because I still seem to have a low groan noise from the rear end. It might slight gear whine from the rebuild. Plan is to drive it this next week, and see if it gets any worse.

I'd pull the fill plug after 500-1000 miles and see how the magnet on it looks. Either way, I've always been a big proponent of early diff fluid oil change on new gears. The gears wear in during the first 500-1000 miles and really make the oil dirty. My Power Wagon diff oil was nasty after only a few thousand miles. Since the initial oil dump the magnet is staying clean and the oil looks good.

Yes, the 6.4 does have reported lifter issues (same as the 5.7). There are several thoughts on ways to avoid the issues (slightly heavier oil, deactivate MDS)

That’s a bit disappointing. I also wished Ram would stop this 89 octane nonsense and just tune the Hemi to 87 and quit giving us inflated numbers.
Still, I’m interested in a PW, because it really does offer great value. Are the factory skid plates very good? Anybody have an idea what they weigh? People complain about the PW payload, but I doubt they consider what the skidplates or winch weighs or the fact their weights have already been subtracted off.

Those skids are fine for what I do. Crossing a breakover, gently, oops. Back up.

The guys that drag the bottom of the truck on rocks, not so much.

I want a sticker that a slide in camper fits in. No PW, Raptor, Rubi for me.

Truck is going back in the shop next week. I’m still experiencing a vibration and noise coming from the rear end. Unlike before, this is happening when driving down the road, and not turning. I had two different people from the local Ram dealership ride with me yesterday. One said heard the noise, and could feel the vibration. The other claimed it was just road noise, which is BS. It wasn’t doing it before the rebuild. I had the tires balanced and rotated before going to the dealership so they couldn’t claim that was an issue.

Update:

I decided to get Ram customer service involved. I wrote them a message detailing the issues I am having with the truck, as well as when and how much time it’s been in the shop. They responded asking for more information, and are supposed to be assigning a specialist to review what’s going on. I doubt this will help much, but we shall see.

Yeah,I see tail heavy cabovers on shortbeds all the time. I know my friend's CCSB's '05's sticker said it's a no go.

Narrowed your search down any on what you’re looking for?

Not really, patiently waiting to find something

I am in no rush

I really do like the 6.4L PW trucks, but used their price tags are past what I want to spend

The 5.7L 2500 trucks are priced well, but I am not sold on the 5.7L in a 2500

Friend of mine has one and says its a good motor using the truck as a DD but as soon as you start working it the MPGS go to about 6MPG and it cant get out of its own way. Does the job fine but could be way better.

Probably a good thing to be doing. I’ve seen a few 18s left on the lots around here. Prices are in the low 40s. You should be able to find a used one in the 30s.

My neighbor just picked up a 2019 PW. Not going to lie, it’s tempting to go test drive one.
