yeah its a angled roof pitch ... really had to not get rope drag b/c the follower has to just up the lead rope to hand dog off the gear and clean. No real good way to do that pitch.. we whipped out my portoledge to a cool / brisk full moon that night and ate a bunch of noodles and stuff off my hanging stove i made from a MSR pocket rocket. Manged to ride out a thunderstorm too... it was soo baller Failed to summit though

How in the world do you all not freeze up? Or did you early on? I've done some rock gym stuff, but never outdoors. I worry that I'd freeze up.

Freeze up is strictly for ice climbing. Specifically belaying!

The thing about top-roping or climbing second -- where the rope is above you and kept snug -- is it doesn't really matter if you let go or can't make the move. Once your head is freed of that worry its all about climbing just one move at a time and concentrating on that one move.

That's how my head works, anyway. Other heads may vary.

Who cares about a summit when you come back uninjured! That hunk of rock is still there for you to go back and have more fun! :victory:

Thanks for the pictures. My rock climbing is limited but the guys who put up with me are always fun to be with.

The lure of Palisades Glacier is what got me started in mountaineering. I've managed to get to just about everywhere but there! Life is strange....

This was a while ago, but this was from my days living in the Chamonix Valley in France. This was my first big lead commitment on steep, long ice. This was four solid pitches. Me was scared.

it is on the Muir side on the DC route. The boots are the Koflach like RMI use to rent, but there mine. I climbed it in 2001 with RMI and Last Summer guideing some buddys.

hey Nate,

I will be doing some climbing and a lot of winter hiking this year in the White mtns and Adir.

I am doing some training with petra in Burlington and going to sign up with International in NH if you want to get together some time

I am planning on hitting Rainer a few times if you are interested, maybe next spring or so
