I've never understood why people don't just use bridging ladders there. They were designed for just this kind of use. Easier on the drive train, easier on the vehicle body. Maybe I'm just too concerned about vehicle survival on long trips and not enough on the "can I do it" style driving.

 
Funny thing is, a fellow in our group brought 'bridging ladders' ( which were actually ATV Ramps) that bent and were destroyed with the first car that attempted to cross the crack.

I was counting on them as I had the small truck with 31" tires and no traction aids, but I made it through okay...

That was the longest day on the trail... (13+ hours) I was beat.
 
Two trucks seen in Auckland, New Zealand

I saw a few interesting vehicles on the streets of Auckland, New Zealand last week.

This H1 Hummer and Defender 110 both sported flat-black paint and Red Bull logos.
