O My Lord!!!!
man you got some winners in that bunch for sure. That Maroon Bells Image here toward the bottom is absolutely Amazing. What camera(s) are you using?

thanks, i sat on the roof of my truck for about 2 hours waiting for the sun to break through and hit the trees in front. I got the craziest looks from people driving past me.

all of these are 5 or more vertical image pano stitches usually with a 5dmark2 with L primes. (14, 24, 50, 85 or 70-200 lenses in the bag) and most important is the platform on the roof of the truck, totally different perspective and options when you have that.

Just amazing last few pictures- wow, these are all inspiring. That night shot is a knockout grndtaco
Aaron I really like the first low contrast composition. I am so getting into these evocative mist and fog shots -making it my goal for the next couple of months.

nothin like a good lens lol. Some great work man. I have not seen a pic of your trucks platform but I have thought of the same for the 4runner... The milky way camp shot is amazing without a doubt as well.

i have a ARE shell MX with 3 crossbars racks . then i bolted a sheet of plywood to the rack with U bolts, painted it black and tossed a bunch of really gritty sand (i think it was black slag) on the paint before it was dry. once that was dry i put a real thick coat of urethane on it and tossed more sand into that.

its a super cheap, lightweight and very grippy when standing up there, i have a swingout bumper with a ladder to get up to it.

This is how my buddy and I photographed in Yellowstone this spring, he on the top of his FJ and me on the top of my 4Runner. Toss a cooler up there to sit on and you are golden for several hours. We went as far as strapping both the cooler and tripod to the roof baskets to reduce the setup time between locations. We were hanging out with a group of wildlife photographers photographing brown and black bears and were constantly on the move.

Yeah I I got a pic of ya there... J/K lots of folks climb right up on there vehicles to take pics. mostly without a platform.

Grntrdtco, That sounds like a heck of a deal there. I have contemplated something simular with the runner but never have wanted to commit to the roof rack.

Thanks Joash- I really wanted more fog on my Northern California trip and actually had to go out of my way to find it.

Agreed!! Glad to see the evolution on here and more people getting into the craft.

grntrdtaco- really like the different perspective on many of your shots. I will be meeting with a buddy this weekend about finally designing and building my roof rack.

make sure its super easy to get up and down on it. otherwise it will be a hassle getting on and off the platform. i can step from the bumper to the hilift to the gas can to the top of my tire to the roof and none of the steps are too big, its like walking up to the roof up stairs. all while holding on to my hi lift or the ladder. (the ladder is behind the canvas bucket)

the red lines is where i step to get to the top. I left the U bolts long so i could bolt things down up there. was going to put the cargo strap down rail things on but realized that was overkill and wouldn't use them much.

i also went with no side rails. easier to sit up there with your legs hanging off, less wind noise, less weight and better gas mileage if its super low profile. and the whole thing only cost about 20 bucks
