The pix in this section are unbelievable! There are some great photographers here! Here is a picture I took this past June when the southeast was having all of the rain and storms. I was "camping" in Florida.

That's one big bolt DMC! We get lots of lightning here in Sunny FLA :)

Great lightning shots, our top end (Northern Territory) is famous for displays like this, I must give it a go next time I'm up north.

Rob, I have a lightning trigger, but I've found that most of my best shots are captured without it. I simply set the camera up on a tripod, aim it towards the storm, set the focus on infinity, use a high ISO, usually around ISO800, set a shutter speed of 30 seconds and an f/stop of f/8, and hope for the best. This way, I'll get multiple shots or lightning bolts in each frame.

Many nights, I end up just deleting everything I took, but some nights I'm rewarded with stuff like you see above. Only problem is sometimes if the strike is too close or too big, it'll overexpose the shot, which sucks when you know it was a sky full of lightning, and the image is unrecoverable due to being so blown out

I do hear that Australia has some amazing lightning, so I look forward to seeing some of your images

I got lucky when I got that shot. I was just standing on the balcony snapping away at the storm and I got really lucky. When the second bolt hit after the one I caught I did not know I could run that fast! I boom from these bolts were amazing! I have never heard anything so loud. I was hoping of would get some runners but could not catch them. Keep the pictures coming folks! They are appreciated!

yep, but it is full of tourists, national park - reservation, so walking only. For me it was very exhausting (you can see on the photo) as this summer was very hot here (37 celsium)

Wow seriously..how do you get a shot like those lighting ones?!

I sis pretty much along the lines what Pat said. I used the bulb setting and a remote though. I actually managed to get a couple my first try! I did tinker with it in Lightroom some.

Everytime i do like super long exposures..even like 30 seconds..everything always gets over exposed. I can't even imagine a 30min one! Even if i go to F20 or something super high and iso 200..i just can't seem to get it right. Or any cool night shots with buildings in them.

One of my favorite areas is along Kolob Terrace Rd in Zion N.P. We decided to wander around a little on Saturday and found some nice sculpturing and great views.
