Wil, yes, that is Watson Lake. The Peavine trail (old railroad grade) that you walked the dogs on, now connects to the Iron King (old railroad grade) at the junction known as "entro" where there used to be an old station, and heads south and is open all the way to Prescott Valley. The Iron King goes through a spectacular section of the Granite Dells that was formerly private access only, so it's a real treat to bike it or walk it. The road you mentioned is definitely closed, but a lot of it is trail now. Now there are some cool trails and a bridge upstream of the lake in Watson woods where the creek comes in - all riparian preserve.

BajaTaco - that shot with the canoe looks like just about the perfect way to spend a day to me.....

Henry

Thanks Henry. You are so right. I am extremely lucky that it is only about 10 mins. from my house. Scott is even closer, maybe a mile or so from the lake.

Outstanding headlight shot!

Now that's magazine quality!

I only have a recent rear end tail light shot........along the main street in Telluride, Colorado a couple weeks ago.

You can see Black Bear in the distance!

Chris, that shot of the Jeep is excellent! Great light. The misty effect of the forest with the light beams filtering through really makes it a dynamic photo. Nice job!

Thanks for the compliments, guys. My original intent was to photograph a picturesque stream that ran below the trail at that location. After taking a few pictures of the stream, I climbed back up the hill, saw the Cherokee's beams shining through the mist, the foggy background, and ... one thing led to another.

Am I the only one who lugs a tripod around with me on the trail? That's why I go alone so often. I don't think anyone else would tolerate me hopping out of the Cherokee every 5 feet to snap some pictures. :)

fantastic shot Chris! That needs to be a feature photo on ExPo

Thanks! You're more than welcome to feature it on ExPo. :wings:

And to stay on topic, here's a scenic forest road on the first day of autumn. What adventures await beyond the bend, I wonder.

Not the best picture I've ever taken, but it came out better than expected for a point-and-shoot stuck out the drivers window. That was a fun day - it is so hard to get out like that, I gotta do it again soon...
