Range Rover now holds the Pikes Peak Hillclimb record for production SUVs in stock trim. Pikes Peak veteran Paul Dallenback piloted a supercharged Range Rover Sport to the 14,000 foot summit, averaging 59 mph.
The road to the summit is now paved along its entire length, but that doesn't make up for the lack of guard rails and precipitous drops along the last couple of miles of the course.
This record will stand until Porsche takes notice. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S is a faster production SUV, but it costs $146K. The Range Rover Sport with supercharged V8 starts at $77K.
Youtube video to be posted in the next couple of days.
