Rear cargo storage designs

Hi,
Well i'm going to be building a rear cargo box for the back of my 85 4Runner. I want it to go from the tailgate to the back of the front seats when in their normal driving position. the rear seats will be totally removed. also a possible extension that could be put up for sleeping. I'm about 6'2" and might need just that little bit. I also want to integrate sound damping material into it, because my truck drives me nuts how loud it is, especially for just a little 4 banger. I haven't decided if i want to use drawers or flip-up lids yet. my only concern is if i put recovery gear in the drawers and park at the wrong angle they might be hard to use. I haven't ruled out a drawer system, a pin or something would just need to be added to improve functionality or prevent injury.

I would like to see some detailed pictures of others you guys have done or seen. be as specific as you can. I'd like to see what materials were used, how they are secured down. dimensions etc. any suggestions would be appreciated, TIA!

I have an '88 4Runner, and I built a shelf in the back, level with the windows. THere is not enough room above the shelf, to sit up. We built it for our dog to sit on, and we could safely store our gear under the shelf.

The ones I have seen for this type of 4Runner, that go all the way to the front seats, have drawers that only go forward about 36". Otherwise the drawers are hard to manage. Use flip up covers in the forward sections. Make it so you can pull the handles through the open sliding window.

Also, if you are tall, and want to sleep in the back end, sleep on the passenger side, since you can move that seat forward, and fill that space with something for your pillow so rest on. Maybe a slide-out panel.

I saw some of these systems over on YotaTech. http://www.yotatech.com Log in and search for drawers. Don't forget to sift out the 3rd gen options, as the rear doors make life much easier, and you don't have them.

My 86 set up in in my sig. Got kids so need the back seat. Just have an extension for sleeping with the seats folded.

There is a Sleeping platform thread somewhere that has lots of pictures and another similar thread started a week ago or so you might look for. Just hit search and "sleeping platform" or "storage drawers" and terms like that and you can find all sorts of threads to get ideas from.

yeah thats pretty much what i was thinking. have the drawers go to where the rear seatbacks would be, and then to a flip-up over where the rear seat cushion was where it drops down that way i could use all that storage.

Has anyone used dynamat? i really wanna quiet down my trucks interior noise, i've heard this stuff is pretty great but looking to see who else has used it.

thanks for the other threads on the subj. i knew they existed, i'm just terrible at searching these forums.

Thanks for the links on the sound deadening, they gave me some good ideas! well i'm going to be drawing up plans for cargo area soon so stay tuned, and i'll post them up as soon as i get something close to finalized. BTW anyone found a good or at least half way decent way to remove DIY bedliner. I used duraback, and i'm really not happy with the results, i wanna take it out, paint the pan and then reinstall carpet. My ideas of being able to just wash my truck out with a garden house didn't quite pan out like i had planned
