Anyone else think it's a little funny that we can't talk guns even though Scott Brady wrote an article which included that his daily kit includes a 1911? I get that some idiots like to go off the deep end on their ideology but deleting threads because some people get their feelings hurt isn't helping the problem. Might as well ban gun discussions period if we're going to have to rely on the mods to make a subjective call on what they think is/is not appropriate discussion in regards to firearms.

I like both the no-politics and no-religion....

Currently USA Canada seem to be divided at about 50% of the population at polar opposites sides....any discussion is just fuel on a fire...

Vehicles are things we talk about...

All politics and religion talk does is turn me off the form and little afraid some of the membership....

All politics and religion talk does is turn me off the form and little afraid some of the membership..../QUOTE]

The fact that the personal views (free speech) of others, via a computer, could make a person afraid of said members, is obsurd! Politics and religion are as much a part of peoples lives (along with the rest of the world) as is their vehicle and personal life. Let us not forget why this great nation was formed! And why others throughout the world flee to the United States! The problem with the world is tolerance. As long as we tolerate this craziness, the worse it is going to be in the future. On a side note, I was just reading a book that has been on my shelves for nearly 9 years and I never opened the cover. Anyway something caught my attention and I thought it would be worth sharing.

Disclaimer! The following quote references, rights, liberty, death and religion.

"I had reasoned this out in my mind: there were two things I had the right to, liberty and death. If I could not have one, I would have the other, for no man should take me alive. I should fight for my liberty as my strength lasted, and when the time came for me to go, the good Lord would let them take me."

-Harriet Tubman, as she escaped to the Northern Railroad.

When you step into another's house and it is said the no politics or religion is to be discussed then one should honor that request. Why would anyone want to dishonor the request by soliciting for/against a political or religious cause?

Personally, I find the "no politics" way of thinking to be one of the great downfalls of society. Especially in the U.S. where we are EXPECTED to be informed and involved in the political process - or else the democratic republic just doesn't work. And nowadays - it doesn't.

Oh I know: "Then take it to a political forum."

Which seems to me somewhat like the idea that a fenced in cage 2 miles from the event can be legitimately called a "free speech zone". (I was under the impression that the whole bloody country was one big free speech zone.)

Having said that, forums are forums and mods are mods. The mods get to decide how much and how far when when to wield the nerf bat. That's proper.

Hey guys I'm planning a trip to Syria do you think a Browning .50 would be adequate or should I look for a minigun to mount to the roof. If I go the minigun route though then I think I'll need to get started on my dual battery setup.

Not saying we can't have gun discussions, but people today in our fragile everyone is a winner society can't handle getting feelings hurt and opinions questioned. If you ask me that's the real problem.

.....and from everything I've read that goes for both the Pro and Anti sides of the issue, and for other issues as well, religion, CB radios, chrome, color (of your vehicle), automatic vs stick.

It is entirely possible to discuss guns without delving into either politics or religion.

You've missed the point entirely. One of the threads that got deleted was not meant to be inspire debate. It was there as a means to pass information along regarding the issues currently affecting gun ownership. The original poster made it clear in that thread he wasn't trying to have a debate. He reminded those who insisted several times that his thread wasn't the place. The moderators deleted the entire thread, instead of deleting the offending posts. The moderator who deleted the thread has already stated that the majority of the behavior in the thread was "impressive." He also admits there is a double standard regard threads of this specific type.

...people argue about topics that have absolutely nothing to without the stated purposes of the forums...

The stated purpose of the section where the thread was posted is "For all hunting, general fishing and gun carry topics."

To call that thread "off-topic" or "unfruitful" only verifies that you either 1. didn't read the thread, or 2. have let your opinions about guns affect your reading of the rules of the forum.

So... When will this thread be deleted?

I'm sure it's being closely watched and strategies to manage PR backlash from its closure are being discussed in the moderator forum. I was surprised to see it active this morning when I logged in.
