I believe I recall the owner Ursa Minor tops inquiring about interests in a Flip-pac alternative for pick up trucks.
I'm not quite sure why the thread died down but I havent heard anything about in over a year at least.

I built an aluminum version Flippac 2 years ago utilizing good and bad parts from a flippac. I am currently in the process of a V2 version Where I am trying to reduce the over all height as well as remove the parts I feel were major problem issues (like the torsion bar) It will still be a little while before I'm in the build phase but I do have some promising quotes.

Anyone remember a guy who was custom building a pop up camper shell on here awhile back? He had it designed with 2 sets of accordion type hinges at the front and back of the shell, so that the entire roof popped up vertically. The front set of hinges were a little shorter too so that the front end of the pop top was angled slightly downwards. I believe he was doing it out of aluminum as well.

Westranger, I remember it too. I didn't track it since I need the bed space of the FP with a 5 foot bed.
lx450 - I remember yours too, even when you sold it. I think it was awesome. But it didn't address two of my fears. Torsion bar and tent quality... good luck on the new project!

AT Adventure Trailers is building there own version of the flip pac and should have it read in July, I'm on their waiting list. I've talked with Mario several times and it sounds like they have addressed all of the issues people were having with flip pacs. No more torsion bar, water proof tent with no need for cover, and made of aluminum.

IF the AT version makes it to market, and I am hoping it does and its a success, I might start looking at the 2016 Tacoma. Our Summer trip is in late July....might need to swing by Prescott, AZ

The AT version may do the same thing with a single tent and lid design, I don't know. It was January last I talked to them and I'm sure their design has developed a lot since then. At the time the concern with the short bed was that they weren't sure their opening mechanism would work with a overhang like the FP does on short beds. Beyond that it sounded like they intended to design for more than one bed size and that a Tacoma long bed (or similar mid size truck beds) was what they were aiming for their first prototype/product. Again, info is almost six months old now so don't take anything I say as particularly accurate.
Anxious to see what they come up with! Personally I knew I was doing a short bed Tacoma and I needed the rig together by this September. So I've already got my FP on a DCSB Tacoma and have my fingers crossed my torsion bar will hold up...

I'm annoyed to see that even though I followed up with AT about this new version they never bothered to contact me about a waiting list, I even offered my truck for prototype phase as I'm in Phx and close by. I gave up on them and ordered a Flip-Pac. Guess I'll get out my waterproof spray, bag of spare parts, and probably by a backup torsion bar. Still annoyed but then again if it's only going to be for long bed trucks maybe that's why since I have a 5' Taco bed.

I bought my flippac a couple years ago so pricing may have changed but it is a pretty nice product depending on what you want it for, for the price. If you order yours without windows then you get the thicker fiberglass (that wasn't an AT exclusive according to FRP). Then you can add your own windows where you want them, like the windoors. If I had been better informed I would have gotten the thicker side-windowless version with an in-folding front slider so it would be easier to clean the outside surfaces of both the truck and the flippac facing window. 303 fabric guard waterproofed the tent, for times when you know it is going to rain the fly from SLO works well and allows you to close a dry, or at least less wet tent when packing up.
You might want to replace the hinge caulking right away also.
Buying direct from FRP saves enough money to buy a spare torsion bar and still save money vs buying from a re-seller. If AT was close to a product they probably would have posted but I recall it took quite a while between taking orders and delivering on the Jeep camper top they made.

if anyone has a superduty 250/350 short bed truck (mine is a '04) and is looking for a flippac I would part with mine. The ad is buried somewhere in the for sale section. I was using it recently but just took it off my truck. Comes with Brophy cable jacks, Bed Rug mat and tailgate mat, SLO fly. In good shape with functioning torsion bar. I have a slide in camper that I had built 11 years ago and is all I really need for what little time off I have to use it.

interesting how that works huh? you can read all about how they developed the slo rainfly for us on the AT website,,, but they didnt develop squat.
