Replacing and Rebuilding Starter Easy?

Hey Guys, I'm fairly knowledgable but not necessarily highly experienced weekend mechanic here. I'm experiencing the dreaded "turn the key click" a few times before the engine turns over experience.

I've already checked my batteries at the battery shop, but I did replace my starter with an Toyota Remanu Starter. It does click when I turn over, so I'm guessing the solenoid must be worn out. It is a daily driver.

Assuming that I have all the tools and parts, could I do a starter replacement over an afternoon and a couple beers?

Also, i was thinking of Repairing/Remanu the old starter myself, Is this something I could do fairly easily? If so, what parts would I need? I see a lot of aftermarket "kits" but not necessarily what is a quality kit out there.

Did that myself a few years back and it was relatively easy even with my limited skill set. Lots of write ups on 'Mud - you can get your starter kit through Beno or even your local dealership.

And as long as you are pulling the starter, you might want to consider a PHH-ectemy...if you PHH has never been done.

It's usually just the starter contacts. Relatively inexpensive kits available from your local dealer.

I dunno what the current design is, But contacts in my Landcruiser starter could just be turned 180° & go another 40 years.

It is very easy to rebuild with new contacts and a new plunger. Look at Youtube for Toyota starter rebuild, all are about the same. Did mine on my '97 last spring and works like new. Make sure you disconnect the battery first.
