so i kept the 4runner, parked it for almost a year, still having hard start and driveability issues and cutting out under a load, and not being able to get over 3-3500 rpms. turns out it was a second bad fuel pump... (yes i know me and fuel pumps...) i finally broke down and bought a fuel pressure tester kit from harbor freight(not a big fan of theirs but this sure worked like a charm), and hooked it up and boom i only had barely 31psi at the regulator, im supprised the truck was running. anyhow went and checked again before the filter and still only 31psi. now i should have between 38-43 psi so i went down and bought a new pump from napa auto parts, it was a bosch pump -admittedly not my first choice but it was all they had in stock and it had a lifetime warranty and i could upgrade(pay the additional difference) for a denso if the bosch craps out. so i once again pulled the tank and installed a brand new fuel pump, boom my lean codes and hard starts and cutting out under load magically went away. the big push for getting the runner back was a burned up the transmission in my gx and i needed a rig for work while the lexus was down.
so a few upgrades to the 4runner, i have installed a ARB twin compressor, i have installed a rear power block -dual 2.1 usb, 12v socket, volt meter, and master kill switch for all. its very handy and i use it more than i ever imagined i would. i also got rid of my toytec adjustable panhard bar as the heim joints where not condusive for hwy driving, it had a lot of play, probably a good 1/4"+ play side to side and that gets sketchy at 70mph in a curve with ruts from studded tires on asphalt. and you combine that with the fact that all my rear links had 300k+ mi on them and were originals i had a lot of slop back there, plus my bilstien 5125s couldnt handle the weight of the rear bumper. so i replaced all my links with brand new ones from toyota(as they dont sell just the bushings), and i upgraded my rear shocks to the fox 2.0 -temporary, as i have a set of fox 2.0 remote resi shocks on order, but even the standard 2.0 fox is a huge improvement over those crappy bilstiens. i now want a set of fox 2.5 coil overs for the front to match things up.
the only issue im having now is im fighting an overheating issue on warm days with the AC on... im looking for a bigger radiator at this point, i have already removed all the rubber splash guards along the inner fenders to let heat out there, i have installed the TRD 160* thermostat, and it runs fine at a constant 170-173 normal driving around town/hwy but if i pull any loads or climb grades i quickly get up around 195-198*(still not bad, but i can not use my AC on warm days as ill qucikly jump up in to the 212+* and thats 70mph on the fwy no load, empty with just me... pull a little trailer or climb a grade or have other people in the truck with me and that quickly becomes 220+* and starts climbing fast. i think at this point im looking for a bigger radiator or going to have to have one made. i found one locally on craigslist for $200, its 2" thick all throughout and is all aluminum, i just dont know if i wanta pay $200 to some kid of craigslist for a "new never installed" radiator... but i have a feeling if i pass this up ill be paying closer to double that to have one made custom for me... i was just hoping for a little bigger, like a 3" thick, i have all the room in the world for a thick radiator with the electric fans.
