Reset or replace? Spring options on NPS

I have a 93 NPS with an excellent set up, about 6 tonne gross.

We have not had the truck long and i have just noticed that fully loaded it is sitting only 1" off the bump stops on the rear axle.

My plan is to upgrade to 17" Wheels with 37" Hankook tyres in about one year. That being the case i dont want to spend too much on the existing spring setup as ill be changing that with the wheels.

I was quoted $900 for the rear springs to be reset.

We are currently in northern NSW and in the middle of a long trip ( mostly on road).

Any cheaper options or is a $900 reset the best option?

springs

Stafford,
I am in a similar position with my 2007 NPS300. My build is near completion and as expected the rear spring clearance is getting marginal. In the first 4 years of its life my truck had a heavy machine on the back which flattened out the springs. My intention was to replace the springs and wheels once finished with parabolics and SS from ATW. I have now been told that they no longer will fit parabolics to my model as it is too hard, needing repositioning of the spring mounts. I have installed airbags to the front with in cab adjustment which has greatly improved the ride in the cab.

I have spoken to several spring places and the following is a summary of the advice I received.

1. Rear spring resetting will cost ~$1k to $1.5 depending on what I want to do re number of leaves. They say that resetting only will probably only last for ~3 years as they will settle again.
2. Put in airbags to the rear ~$1.5k to lift it and give a better ride ?
3. New spring packs with a more progressive rating and no transition to overrides. If the load is fairly constant this is considered the best. Cost ~$5k allowing for testing and alteration.
4. Parabolics seem unobtainable for my truck. There is a company in England who make springs for almost anything who say they can get the materials ex Europe and make them up for me, but only if I take the truck there.!

At the moment I am doing nothing and will wait until the fit out is finished. Option 3 is probably the way I will go with perhaps adding air bags depending on the ride quality once done.

cheers

alastair, how did you get on with your suspension set up, i am looking to purchase a 2007 nps300 and would have liked the parabolics but if they are not available what is next best

I have been side tracked building a new house and currently have no workshop to finish the last 10% of my fit out. The previous comments still stand but no progress has been made. We are about to move into the house and hope that early next year I will complete the build.
