??? Restored Land Cruiser 80 Series Interest???

I disagree. I don't think the "demand" has gone down. I think folks are picking up 100's instead because they "can't find low-mileage 80's in great shape any longer". The demand from the wheeling community for a cherry 80-series is still going strong...just many are dissapointed cause they can't find one. I have one...and we decided this weekend that our built-up LX450 with only 137,000 miles will be going on sale and almost ASAP.

My 80 was purchased less then a year ago and does not support your theory:

1996 White, Locked, Arizona, excellent condition, new leather, 100% built, 125K, excellent service records, garaged its entire life.

After a week I was the first person and only to look at it with an asking price of $12.5K

What will you be asking for your LX450?

NOTE: Thanks for all the PM's and the complement but my 80 is not for sale

Dont really want to hijack the thread, but i put in a 1hd-t. I was able to get my hands on a complete JDM for around 7000 so it made the swap easier. The swap of all the physical items needed is easy. but the electrical is the pain. Brought it to a local landcruiser shop and getting them to do the electrical work for the conversion made the most sense to me.

Who did you go to for the electrical? I spend quite a bit of time in helowna... never know when you are going to need something looked at!

where are those figures coming from!!?

8500 for a REBUILT engine? 4000 axle service? 6500 paint job!!?

No way jose...

The 8500 for the motor was a bit of an educated guess based on some experience. I just recently rebuilt my axle's with all new Toyota parts (see my build thread) and didn't spend even that, but I didn't add labor which I did myself. So 4000 or so was probably not enough labor $$$ or gears and lockers. 6500 for the paint would not be for show truck quality but would get the jams, engine bay and all. Glass and everything would be already removed.

For me, I would not be after a truck that I would not use, like a show truck as I have an FJ40 for that. It would be to fill the void of lack of anything that is currently on the market that I have any interest in. READ "I"!!! To have one of the most well traveled vehicles on the planet that probably is and has been in more markets then just about all others. And to be able to have access to one that is more or less "NEW"!!! That's what I'm getting at.

Motors, V8, diesel, turbo, supercharged with any tranny combos, more or less easy! It would be up to the buyer to make it pass the inspections.
Suspension, wheel and tire combos, easy!
Aftermarket support, Incredible!!!
Global parts availability probably as good as any.

And like I said, just a feeler!!! I haven't put any plans in place, just love the 80 series and have kicked around doing this to my current truck for myself, not to sell.

If it was a LHD US legal specimen with a fresh motor, axles, tranny and mods, you might be surprised....

Would there be any way of setting up a business bringing low mileage diesels from Europe into the US? There's still a lot of nice 80's to be found overhere with less than 200.000 km's on the counter...........

I think the 25 year old to import law would kill this idea...

25 years? up here in canada it is 15 years. And yes i have thought about bringing LHD diesel vehicles over from germany, i actually found one that was very cheap with low miles, but it has rust damage and when it was test driven it was a little sketchy, was a 5 speed manual diesel. (no lockers though). Importing from europe is doable except rust is a problem, thats why most come from norther JAPAN where rust isnt an issue. Also i believe quatamala? still actually makes new 80 series LHD diesels to this day.
