Restoring the "Hummer" Brand to it's former glory! - H3 Build

Hi,

I'm Eric Schwarz, I currently live in Marengo, IL and this is the build thread for my 2006 H3 Hummer with both the Luxury and Adventure Package. I have this thread on other forums, but I was hoping you guys would help me spread the word about restoring the brand "Hummer" to it former glory. I believe the brand has been destroyed by chrome, nerf bars, people buying it for a status symbol, and the lack of an aftermarket parts. I have been designing and developing parts on my own that I bolt on to my Hummer and hope to change the negative perception that Hummer has gotten.

I purchased it back in October of 2011 with only 39,000 miles on the odometer and have been in love with it ever since. This all started a while back, when I got into an argument with a guy that was making a part for the H3 Hummer, long story short, I took the challenge to make the part and haven't stopped yet. My eventual goal is to take the H3 Hummer to it's maximum potential without getting too wild with the customizations. Basically, using a hacksaw and not being able to move back to the factory specs are frowned upon. I hope to reaching what I think is stage one with these parts, most of which that I proudly make myself, early spring 2013.

Rock Sliders / Rocker Panel Protection -Done
CB Radio -Done
High Clearance Leaf Spring Mounts - Done
Extend Shackles - Done
Crank the torsion bars - In progress
Heavy Duty Skid Plates - Just need testing
a custom winch mount with a wireless warn winch I'm developing right now - Currently Designing
Hi-Lift, CB Antenna, and single Jerry can mount for the rear door - Currently Designing
35 inch General Grabber Tires - Done

That is all the parts that I have in stage 1 of building the perfect H3 Hummer. I have two more stages of building out the H3 Hummer to maximizing the potential it has without getting too crazy with modifying the Hummer. I don't want to spill all the beans yet because I would like to build up suspense, but I have to tell you that I want the factory cross-members to disappear.

Continuing on with the story...

Around December 2011 I got in an argument which came down to me being upset about the prices of H3 Hummer Parts. I think that $1000 for Rock Sliders / Rock Rails is too much, let alone that the parts didn't come powder coated. Before this point I had no intentions of ever building parts for the Hummer. I just wanted to be happy with rock sliders, 35s, and Level front end with extended shackles because my last vehicle had taken over my life with the sheer amount of money I put into it. After getting upset at all the stuff I had to read on another Hummer forum, proving myself and to everyone became my mission that parts don't need to cost that much. Immediately after reading the content on the forum I cruised on down to my garage and laid underneath my Hummer just staring at it and how I would make these sliders. An hour later I had the basic idea and the following images show the development.

And a video, with me being very excited that I'm finally getting to test the rock sliders and prove that I did it.

This is a bit out of order. I'm searching for the photos of my CB install but I think I'll just retake the photo's, anyway 35's tires.

nice. maybe you could start a business and not charge like the other guys :)

:sombrero: I have but I don't want to over step my boundaries on this forum. Generally advertising a business is frown upon so I'm trying to make this a subjective build on just improving the image of Hummer and showcasing some cool parts that are purely functions.

Looks like a nice build, but good luck with convincing most folks that anything but an H1 is a "Hummer", especially folks that either own an H1 or have driven them in the military. An H3 SUT with a diesel swap would be a pretty sweet rig though.

interested to see what would be compatible on my H3T

I've got oem UCP and brush guard right now

Do you know David-Hunter on here? he has an '08 Alpha with a lot of his own customization

enjoy ur h3 its gr8 4x4, much better than 80% of the 4x4s on this forum , most ppl look down on those trucks because its not an H1,
its the same if we say, hey any other jeep besides Rubicon is fake plastic ?? is it ?
plus most of those dudes talking crap suffer from JEALOUSY symptom and don't realize they are driving 1500 dollar junk with 2 inch lift and no lockers :)

All I gotta say is that I love my H3. I just haven't got it dialed in just yet. Lack of funds with the way living expenses are here in CA.

I have not seen much hate for the h3's. there are some fine specimens on here. Good luck with your build. H2's are ugly as sin though.

good work. I like the H3s. I personally thing their better for most trails just because the H1 is so insanely wide. I cant stand the H2 though
