Retrofit an '05 Tacoma with eLocker ?

My truck has all Atrac, DAC and the locker. I use the locker the most but to say that the Atrac and DAC are worthless.......I wouldn't say that. I've been in situations where the locker was of no help and it was Atrac the saved the day. It takes a little learning to make it work for you but, it does work. If you ever do any really steep, slick, snowy or muddy descents, the DAC comes in very handy. If that is not you, save your dough buy a winch bumper and a winch, good tires and a portable air compressor.
just out of curiosity, in what type of situation is ATRAC better than a locker? My experience with the ATRAC, trac, or whatever other traction aid Toyota installed on the Tacoma, has been that it cuts power to a wheel when it detects slippage. Sounds great in theory, but at least for me, it ended with me dead in water.

There are situations where sheer wheelspin is necessary and the ATRAC can't distinguish between good and bad wheelspin.

On toyota's site, inthe fj cruiser section there are videos showing the uses of both the a-trac and the e-locker. Also the atrac is only available on 09+ tacomas. Previous tacos have vsc, notibly different than a-trac. I've used a-trac a handful of times and have been happy with the results. The key is understanding the dynamics of the feature so you know what type of terrain or situation it would be beneficial in.

Actually, all '05+ Tacos have ATRAC available. However, for the '09 model they gave you an on/off switch, which is nice. The behavior of the system is the same otherwise.
Where I find Atrac useful over the locker is when I've encountered steep ascents with a loose surface that wants to create wheel hop. With the Atrac on and a slow steady throttle the Atrac will walk it right up with no hop. If you give it too much throttle it will spend too much time braking the wheels and over heating the system causing it to shut off. The key is a relatively light foot with ATRAC. The climb is slower than tree sap sometimes but has only minimal amounts of wheel spin, where as the locker would gladly spin both wheels into oblivion. These occasions are a rarity though, and as I said before, I find the locker much more useful.
Now just let me have them work in tandem!
