return of the Grand Wagoneer

At a press conference at the Detroit Auto Show this week, Jeep announced that the Grand Wagoneer nameplate will be revived. The new vehicle will be a stretched version of the current Grand Cherokee.

The new GW will be a 7 passenger model similar in size and layout to the 2011 Dodge Durango. I expect Jeep will offer the 5.7L V8 and Quadra-Trac II full time AWD with low range.

No word if the Grand Wagoneer will include simulated wood-grain body side cladding.

The Commander is toast. It's based on the previous Grand Cherokee platform, while the Grand Wagoneer uses the 2011 platform, which is just about completely new.

Anyone find any pics?

The thing that was always nice about the commander was the rear cargo area was squared off. Very easy to put stuff behind the back seats. The GCs always tend to be sloped in that area.

That said. I like the idea of a new waggy.

I wonder if this Grand Waggy will displace the Commander?

Last week I saw a Commander with Grand Wagoneer badging....

and wood grain sides. :) Look about like this:

New colors, more cup holders, more plastic that looks like chrome, faux wood grain and re-branding using vintage model names is no substitute for better motors, better gas milage and more utility...And for this reason, many think they stopped making Jeeps in 2006.
