Rhino-lining Carpet?

I think your best option would be to get a vinyl floor liner. I'm sure there are kits out there, and they can't be to expensive.

Eric, how well do those hold up? I TEAR through regular floor mats fairly regularly. I've gone throw about 4 sets in 6 years of fairly heavy duty sets in my daily driver. Maybe a set of husky mats on top of a vinyl floor would be a good compromise. Something easy to clean, somewhat resilient, but mats to keep the worst wear spots from damaging the mats.

Thanks guys!

Husky liners aren't textile floor mats. They either "plasticized rubber" or "rubberized plastic" :D

For my CR-V I had for the front passengers, 1 for the read wich went all accross and 1 for the cargo. What's nice with them is that they're made specific to your car model so you always get a perfect fit and they don't move around much.

I really liked them in the winter because it held the water from melting snow on my boots. The next morning it would be frozen again so I only had to take the ice and throw it out.

They're also easy to wash. If the floor mat in your cargo is really bad you could actually remove it and put a Husky liner instead, you only need to put a few strips of velcro on the floor and under the liner.

hehe, sorry, it's the rubber ones that I burn through. I just rip holes in them somehow, or the edges wear off.

Thanks again!

I removed the carpet from the cargo area in my XJ to apply bedliner. XJs are known to rattle anyway and after I removed the carpet and insulation it rattled like a spray can going down the road. IT DROVE ME INSANE! I would come home and go on OCD fits trying to find what was rattleing! I never found everything that caused it. That is something I would seriously consider before doing that again. Its sounds like the vinyl would be a better option because you could put sound proofing underneath it.

Unfortunately, my XJ came with EVERYTHING missing in the cargo area, all panels, carpet, trim, wheel holder, etc. The good thing is that about the only thing that makes noise (well, the only rattles anyway) is the rear seatback, and only when it's locked in. I believe it's due to the rubber donuts that hold the seat back securely when locked are worn out.

Those are very valid points though, and the vinyl/soundproofing might make it less noisy overall.

Maybe my truck was just out to get my sanity:gunt:

The 4runner I am driving now has had soundproofing installed EVERYWHERE, and I love it. If I want to hear the road I just role down a window, if I want peace and quite, I role em up.

Yeah, I hear you. Neither of my cars have much in the way of soundproofing, so the road is a bit noisy at times, but I'm somewhat deaf (played drums for too long) and yound still, so it doesn't bother me too much. I can imagine in a few years it'll get on my nerves.

Maybe the best mod I ever did was rip the disgusting carpet out of my 02 TJ and Herculine it. It's a little colder in the winter and a little warmer in the summer but you can't beat hosing out the interior after a trip.

Actually, there is an aftermarket floor option for XJs that StumpTaco (http://expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16097&page=5) used that is a drop-in vinyl floor. It's definetely an option that I like better (I LOVED the vinyl floor in my father-in-laws Ranger), but it doesn't look like it will mold well. I sort of forgot about this, it's not a bad price, about $140 shipped. http://www.automotiveinteriors.com/

Thanks for the memory jarr, I think I'll look into that some more.
Also look at JCWhitney. Although I really don't like to buy anything that's cruicial to my truck working from them, Interior bits and pieces would be ok. PLus the have a TON of stuff.

Cheers

Dave
