sweeet..... who make them?

I found a guy locally named Richard... Apparently he's never done anything of this sort before and he totally conned me into making one for him instead! It turned out pretty good for a backyard hack. :sombrero:

Now that is awesome!

Thanks guys. It was a pain to do, but it's almost complete! I can't wait to slap on the carpet and get it stuffed with necessary junk. I've got a bottle opener on the blank face above the drawer now and a few patches will live there once the carpet goes on.

Also I'll be bridging the two units to have a nice removable deck with tie downs for more unnecessary junk too. Until next week!

Looks great, really unique design. Where'd you pick up the handles for the drawers? Also, look in the patio section at your Home Depot, that's where I found some indoor/outdoor carpet that's water and stain resistant and matches the Nissan grey carpet pretty darn well. I used that on my old sleeping platform setup.

I bought them off of McMasterCar website. It's my goto when I need specific items that regular stores don't carry.

Thanks for the tip on the carpet. Ill be checking that out probably tomorrow and getting it wrapped up as well. I was going to use one of their on-shelf 6'x8' dark grey carpet but I would rather use some stain/water resistant material instead.

That 3M spray glue is just the ticket for securing carpet to wood. Just make sure the wood is clean. I did that and a couple well-placed staples when I built drawers for my old Disco.

Thanks for the tip on the 3m spray. If anything I'll use Spray90 since its tacky and goopy for heavy duty applications. We've got a bunch at the shop anyways. I was going to use carpet tape and staples, but I like the Spray glue approach. Maybe even a triple combo.

That would be the way I'd go if I were to do it again. A heavier duty glue definitely would be a good idea, and doing all three would be even better. You'd be able to lift a full box by the carpet fibers :D

That 3m is what I used on my platform and stapled it after I wrapped the edges. How much of it are you covering in carpet, just the top? I'm interested in seeing how it works out with just the adhesive.

:sombrero: We'll see how strong the fibers really are!

I'll be wrapping the entire unit: sides, drawer faces, and top. I'd be worried about the wrapped edges if I only used the spray. Over time, the heat and the carpet material will want to unravel. I'll be doing at least the tape/staple or spray/staple.

My shody carpet job. Lots of lessons learned here on the first pass. I may redo the drawer faces to give it a cleaner look by shaving down the edges to wrap the the carpet around the seams, but for now, it will do.

Passenger Side: (Don't mind the top side carpeting as the flip top hasn't been cut out for a latch yet)

Driver Side:

Looks great! Not shoddy at all IMO, and anyway, those pieces are in there for their function, not form. I like it, where'd you get the slides by the way, are they full extension? That's been a big impediment to my progress so far.

Thanks :) The finish still bothers me but I'll look into it at a later time.

I purchased the sliders from McMaster Carr. Full Extension with a detent at full extension to hold the drawers open. McMaster has everything. Look into Rockler as well since they specialize in cabinetry.
