Stock tire size is 265/70r16- with 285s the odometer/speedo is 7.5% off, with 315s it's 13% off. So, your mileage may be just a little better than you calculated.

Maybe look into a Truspeed to ensure the transmission is shifting properly and extend its life. It has separate adjustments for both gears and tire size.

I'm still anxiously following your experience with 35s on stock gears. Any rubbing on the back of the front flares yet? I'm surprised you're running the mudflaps.

Beautiful, I love the stock/sleeper look. Your attention to detail is amazing.

Looks great!

Thanks, I appreciate it guys.

I dunno, I checked with my GPS anyway and was 10% out everytime. Would gearing affect this? I'm still not sure if I've got 3.9's or 4.1's.

I have rubbed a little on the fender liner while turning and compressed, but thats simply because the inner liners near where I tubbed are shaped for the old firewall area, not the new one. If I cant fix it with a heat gun, I will be removing the liners. No rub on the flares whatsoever. It's really just how the arch of the wheel travels when you turn the steering. The front tire just tucks in behind the flare with how I trimmed it. The mudflaps are trimmed back to far that if I rub them, I would also be rubbing the firewall plate. I'll grab some more photos of that area...

Hahah yah it will get there. I'm planning my armor options now but realistically it's either going to be armor or gears/lockers in the next 6 months, not both. Either CBI or Cruisin' Offroad will be making me custom armour. Both are about 10 hours away from my location, but CBI in the US is going to be painful cause the Greenback is so strong right now!

Gearing does not affect it. Purely just the percent difference in tire size. From 265/70r16 to 315/75r16 is 13.1% difference.

Truck looks amazing btw!

You've got 3.91s. Gearing would effect the percent error, but not for your current calculations since you're just changing tire diameter.

Going by your GPS is probably a safe bet if it's reliable.

If you can part with your truck for a while maybe you could drop it at a shop so they can use it as a template? Maybe get a discount for being the guinea pig? I'd love for more companies to offer bumpers for the 1st gens, especially CBI, I love their work.

Fair enough. I don't know about the gearing though.... Canadian spec Toyotas often have a slightly higher gear range (or option of). For example, most 3rd Gen 4Runners came with 4.10's as stock gears, especially the SR5's. Here in Canada, every one I've ever seen came with 4.30's despite the internet narrative dictating otherwise. Not saying I don't have the 3.91's but I would not be surprised to have 4.10's. Damnit, now I'm going to crawl under there and do a spin test next time I'm at my garage.

I've actually been discussing this with both parties. I dont want to speak on behalf of either vendor but there shows some promise for at least sliders. The bumpers are a different story though.... I have heard the frame ends are slightly different on 99-04 and 05/06 and D-Cab models but I can't imagine it would be much different than any dissimilarities on other current platforms. Don't want to put the wagon before the horse but we'll see what happens.

Makes sense. Thanks Connor!

That's interesting, the VIN should be able to tell you!

i know the exchange is going to hurt the most, but maybe you can take a vacation to CBI and cut down on, whatever it is it costs to get it into canada.

Seems like they're 4.10s in an open diff.

Very interesting... damn Canadians. That could be why you aren't feeling as big of a loss in power with 35s. This could also explain my extreme jealousy since I had 4.10s in my truck a month ago and am back to 3.91s after "the ordeal". :friday:

Yah I've checked that link out before. Which is how I came to the conclusion that I MIGHT have 4.10's. The only thing that makes me still unsure is that my diff is definitely an LSD. It has the "LSD" Toyota markings near the fill plug hole.

It would hold true regarding power though... how do you find your 3.91's and 33's?

Good tech talk going on in here :) Thanks Sean for all the info you've provided me with!

3.91s and 33s is okay. I drove my buddies completely stock 4x4 00' Tundra recently and it was much faster than my truck. Felt like a hot rod.

Sounds like you need to jack the truck up to figure this out. If you spin one wheel and the other spins the same way or not at all- limited slip. Opposite way- open diff. And it also sounds like you know how to count rotations to check the gear ratio.. just under 4 and it's 3.91, just over 4 and it'll be 4.10. V6 Tundras have 4.30, so if it's more than 4 1/4.... I'm curious to know what ya got!
