I'd keep the stock color and either remove the cladding and get the non-clad trim piece for the back of the front wheel well or I'd bed liner the cladding.

Thought about that but.how.hard is cladding removal on these things? There's a non clad trim piece? I have seen a few without cladding bit don't remember an extra piece there... We sell Al's Liner at work and its affordable and easy to use so that may be an option, good suggestion!

Keeping my eye on this thread Terry, we are interested to see what you come up with! We too are thinking a west coast van tour but its looking like that will be in August this year.

I wont have the time off (paid) yet by then I don't think, but it would be a fun trip that time of year when my wife and son are off school.

It's not too hard to remove the cladding. Don't know if it's true for all vans, but mine is held in place by plastic push rivets underneath, double sided tape and rusted out push fit brackets under the doors. The front fenders don't come all the way down by the door on any of these vans. The trim piece for the non-cladded vans is small. I didn't really notice it was a separate piece till I had my first cladded van.

So does removing the cladding leave any visible holes in the door or rocker panel that need to be welded shut?

The stock rims are fairly easy to find on CL. I found three sets locally. Personally, I'd look into getting some 16" rims and run LT tires. Cragar Soft 8s are usually fairly cheap. I want to get some 16" D Windows for Grumpy.

I like the look of the stock 5 spoke steel rim with center cap. I already bought a new set of LT31x10.5R15 tires so thats covered! Plus if I get the narrower stock rim, I can easily add a DIY beadlock to it later.

If you weren't clear across country I'd work with ya. I have a spare set. They aren't pretty though, too many Chicago winters.

Got my front 1 ton brake upgrade bought and delivered today, will try and install next week. Also got word from Overland Vans my kit shipped yesterday and will be to my house on Monday - ships out of USA on the parts I ordered. That will likely get installed same time as the brakes. I cant wait!
In the classified section I posted my 31" Pro Comp Xtreme All Terrains for sale @ $145 each, if they arent sold by next week I'll keep and install them. Updates and pics as additions go on.

Me gots a problem peoples... my late van has early torsion bars - the lift keys I just got from Overland Vans wont fit, so I need a set of late torsions (36"). If anyone has a spare set reasonably priced please let me know ASAP! Thanks

Too bizarre.

Are we sure it's a old-bars/new-bars thing and not the wrong torsion keys?

I only mention it because somebody else on ASV a few weeks ago got the wrong torsion keys (for a different vehicle, presumably) shipped to him. OLV sells 'em but they don't ship them out, they're drop shipped from elsewhere.

The 36" short bar uses the small 1.5" hex key (which is what I was sent & supposed to work in my van), the torsions I have installed are the longer 41" with the sleeve that increases the key size. Looks like I'll be ordering a new set to play it safe

EDIT: Ordered a new set today off of e-bay, Dorman parts for $242.88 with free shipping, no tax, and they give it a lifetime warranty. For a pair thats pretty unbelievable as our company account gets us the same part locally for $198 EACH through our nationwide supplier. Cant wait to finally get this thing lifted and my 31's on!
