Rock Slider Mounting Options...

Hey All!

I was lucky enough to purchase an ARB front winch bumper for my trooper and the gentleman threw in a set of shrockworks rock sliders for $50. They were still wrapped in plastic. I am curious as to how most have installed them on their vehicles. I know that welding is always an option, but I would like to be able to remove them and repaint them if necessary. Has anyone else had any luck with bolting them to their frames?

I am an extremely competent welder, I was a bodyman for ten years before I took the leap into the front office, so I know I can weld them to my frame no problem.

If bolting, can they still be used as highlift points? I would hate to be jacking the vehicle and have the bolts tear through the frame. Any insight would help. Thanks!

wow.. great deal.
I didn't realize shrockworks made weld on sliders.
I like the way the all pro sliders are created to be bolt on.

Bolt on would be my preference (current set up with Demello sliders).
Plenty solid to be able to use as a hi-lift jackpoint (with the appropriate adapter)

I have JKS super nerfs on my XJ.

The body/frame side mount is welded and then the slider slips into the resultant tubes (tube within a tube). This connection is bolted so the slider can be removed at will.

I built sliders for my Explorer that bolt on. I designed the mounts to clamp the top and bottom of the c-channel frame so I didnt even have to drill any holes. They attach with 3 legs and I have used a hi-lift on them with no problems.

Troopers have a fully boxed frame so I think my plan of attack is going to be two fold. I am going to make a set of mounting plates to weld the sliders onto. Then drill the necessary holes through both the plate and the frame rails, then I will fab up a corresponding backing plate to help distribute the force on both sides of the frame rails. Off to the steel supplier tomorrow to pick up some quarter plate drops, and then out to the garage tom night to do some fab work!

Had bolt on sliders on my old Tacoma. Removing them just for paint was a pain. I ended up laying on my back and wire brushed/touched them up with canned Rustoleum and a brush. On this truck, I will go with welded sliders to avoid drilling holes in the frame. $.02
