Rollers for trailer dragging

Ok what are they called those roller do-hickey's for the trailer tails so you can roll over rocks and such rather than drag steel? How makes them and where can I find them? Does anyone have pneumatic rollers?

Your best bet is an RV supply house, they make skids and rollers for motorhomes and the like.

We build the rear bumper to be structural to take any impact from drop off's. Experience has taught us that if the rear end is not designed or constructed correctly lots of damage can be done.

Years ago I rebuilt a boat trailer for my then employer, a racing engine builder. In the process I added some rollers at the rear of the trailer since it was so low and there was evidence of it dragging on who knows what. I used old Small Block Chevy wrist (gudgeon) pins on some 3/8" OD CRS. They worked out rather nicely. :)

I've checked at a couple of supply houses for RV's and they offer the ones for the trailer hitch. I haven't found the longer ones that I am seeking to put on the entire back hunk of frame.

I agree that having the framework stout will make this strong enough to drag over anything but I don't want to drag if I can help it on 70* rock faces and plus if I ever have to back up a rock face, wheels will make if much easier and smoother than just a tail drag. :)

What I've seen used in a couple places are cast iron or cast steel non-swiveling casters of appropriate size. Places I've seen them used are on the rear of long overhang motor coaches and on the front of YJ frame rails.
McMaster is likely your easiest source there.
