Rolling with the Punches

We are stopped at an abandoned gas station. I spray the ground for Dixie to lay in. It's 108 in the shade. I turn on the heater, i pop the hood. The truck is over heating. The dog has puked. The adventure starts..

Sometimes trips don't pan out exactly the way we plan. Sometimes you don't have control over what the future has in store for you. You adapt, you overcome and in the end you still have a good time.

This was our latest trip where we were headed to Utah and ended up on the Pacific coast instead. Trip report here:

Hey great attitude. I like to take the family dog out with me but it is S. vegas the summer heat is brutal so we cut back in the summer. I dont know what to do when he starts panting a lot other than I try to give him water and sometimes he wont drink it.???

I read your blog earlier today...and well, I think many of us have been there and I was glad to see you guys stuck it out and saw it for what it was, an adventure...As a kid we had many road trips and vacations where something or many things went wrong....It has now become a family "saying" that it's not an adventure until something or someone goes wrong/breaks/gets lost or what have you. I was also glad to see you mention your priorities...while the trip is great the facts that sometimes our love ones may not be up to it,or get ill, and the trip may have to be postponed is just part of it. If everything was a sure thing then no adventure would be had...so thanks for the write up and keep on truckin':smiley_drive:

Thank you for treating Dixie like one of your own... She may not be human, but she's a sentient being with feelings.

Great job of making the most of the situation. May not have been as relaxing a vacation as you had wanted, but at least you got out and had fun! Any ideas on why your truck was overheating?

Just finished reading this myself! Thanks for warning us about the joys of being semi-involutarily spontaneous:Wow1:... And what a weekend to do it on! You guys are real troopers. Just like DeafDrummer said, thanks for treating Dixie like your own! Kristy and I don't have children yet, but Bear will just move into the position of being the "big brother" when we do!

Another great read Dave, I always look forward to new blog entries! Thanks for taking us along.
