I thought about doing this myself but went with a Thule Xsporter rack. What kind of Baja rack are you using? Do you have anymore pics?

It's the new style mount tacoma rack that mounts to the factory holes in the roof.

Its somewhat of a one off at this point - not sure if they will be more mass producing it - but its a utility rack with built in fairing - very similar to the one they sell for the FJ

Its a flat rack with no cage. I its 48" x 60 and is pretty slim line to the roof. I was looking for a rack like this and after speaking with BajaRack they built me this.

I will have my RTT off later this week - I will shoot some shots without it on there.

Hi, I'm curious about the deflection you are seeing. Does the ditch seem to be sagging, or is the deflection in the roof next to the ditch? Is it a permanent deflection that stays after you unload the rack? Bajarack claims 200lb capacity on the specs in their website. The pdf instructions, as of today, actually says 300lb. If the roof is deflecting a little at 150 lbs, I'm rethinking the rack idea. Thanks

What deflection are you referring to. I'm looking at mine now with the RTT on it and there is none.

Toyota advertised limit for a rack using the factory channel holes is 200lb dynamic.

Again - since that's what they advertise I suspect it's conservative.

Static/parked weight it can handle much more.

The pics of the mount above are from BR website not my vehicle. Actually the mounts have been redesigned since the photos above and contour into the channel nicely.

That's good to hear. Devortec posted a while back " I have a BajaRack on my DC and when I load it with camping gear (maybe 150 lbs +-) I can already see some deflection in the roof at the mounting points. Your average RTT is 100+ lbs empty so you'll quickly exceed the weight capacity of the stock mounting points." That was the deflection I was asking about. I'm curious about what's going on with his set up.

I agree that those mounting points should be able to handle plenty of static weight. That part of the roof is providing crush resistance in a rollover, so it should be strong. Also kind of interesting is that Bajarack is only using four of the six mounting points that Toyota provides. I've got to think that BR loaded quite a bit more than 200 lbs in the rack when testing.

I was wondering the same thing about them not using the mid mount points. It is only a single hole vs the dual at front and rear - toyota factory rack/bars only use all of them. I personally dont see an deflection in the mount areas with the tent loaded up (~120lb) or with someone in it. As you said - these are crush/rollover areas and made to hold up the weight of the car.

As you said - I am sure this was tested with more weight and I am sure Toyota's dynamic number is still conservative - but in a day where you can get sued for anything I dont think anyone will quote more than the factory does...

Under heavy load ~ camping gear, some water containers, grill, etc...I notice that the sheet metal across the roof between the 2 channels slightly deflects. Very minor and I'm sure it's nothing. I've done some fairly aggressive off road stuff with the rack fully loaded and nothing has gone wrong.
