RTT on Stock 4gen 4Runner rack, possible?

Hello all, need some help. I'm looking to purchase a RTT, however at this time I want to avoid having to buy a new rack. Is it possible to mount a RTT to a 4gen runner's stock rack? Would the weight both dynamic and static be too much? Is there a cheaper alternative to having to buy a new rack? The RTT will be used on an extensive road trip throughout the pacific northwest, with some light offroading (dirt roads mainly). Thanks for your help.

I personally would not use a stock rack on any vehicle to mount a RTT. Most stock racks won't hold the tent let alone people in it. Is your 4Runner a sport with the round crossbars?

I would not trust the OEM rack with that much weight.

The OEM rack is rated to either 135 or 150 lbs.

I have the limited model with the flat cross bars. How about with aftermarket cross bars (Thule, Yakima)? Would that give me enough support? Like this: www.toyota120.com/forum/showthread.php?t=100

Depending on the tent you choose you might want to at a 3rd crossbar.
