I have the large mombasa RTT and this weekend when packing it up in the rain i pulled on the zipper cord and the metal piece of the zipper spread out and came off. When i attempted to squeeze it back on it broke. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

I'd call the company you purchased the tent from and see what can be done - or go to a seamstress type of place and see what they can do. I'm all thumbs when it comes to zippers but I have a buddy in SC who is awesome with this type of stuff and does commercial/industrial sewing so I bet there is someone local, maybe a canvas place, that can help you out.

Had the same thing happen on my tent a couple weeks ago. I'll be interested to see if there is an easy fix for this.

Take the cover to an upholstery shop that can sew a new zipper in, once it breaks it will happen again. I carry extra ratchet straps in case it happens on the trail one day to hold the cover on for the trip home.

You don't need to replace the whole zipper if just the slider was damaged. Usually are replacement can be put back on, though it may require removing and replace one or more of the stops at the end of the track. Some sporting goods stores sell replacements, as to fabric shops. My store of choice for this would be Seattle Fabrics, a fabric shop that specializes in outdoor gear.

REI sells zipper repair kits. It might just need a new slide. If it doesn't, REI will also install a new zipper in their repair shop.

I have had problems with my Mombasa cover. I bought a new cover thinking that would cure it. No such luck. Next I will install a plastic zipper (the ones with actual teeth) and bail on the nylon (the ones that look like a continuous coil).

Any boat, upholstery, or tent shop can replace it for around $12 if you are afraid to find a new zipper pull at your local craft store and do it yourself, zipper pulls are easy to replace.
