I would like to give a big thanks to SWR for showing us such a beautiful area, its always amazing what you can find over the next hill. :clapsmile
It was nice meeting everyone out on the trail and I look forward to doing it again.

It was such a clear day you could see from the border all the way to the Salton Sea :Wow1:

Some kind of structure that we think might have been used for some of the mining activity? It had seen better days.

Its impressive what a good driver can do with no lockers. All you need is to do is keep on trying until you find the line that works. The little 4runner that could

After we got back to the main road, three of the group needed to head back home for prior engagements. SWR and us went to the northside of I-8 freeway to check out the old overland stage route. There were some tight spot that the Land Cruiser and Xterra may have had problems with. It was a really neat route but man I would not have wanted to travel over it by horse drawn buggy. :Wow1:

Much of the road is along a built shelf

Sure don't want to fall of that edge
PICT5217.jpg

Built up area to cross a wash out. Look at the size of the bolders compared to SWR's wheels.

At the end, a water trough that is fed by a moutain spring

At the end. The gaurdrail you see is I-8. I would have never known this was here without SWR showing us.

Border Patrol agent who came to check us out. He was hiking in full gear with vest, machine gun, pistol, backpack. He decided to stay and keep an eye out from the peak. He said it's a well known smuggling gulch with traffic on a daily basis. We told him we hadn't seen anyone but he assured us the smugglers had seen us.

Couple more shots of the border from his vantage point.

A Coyote head shaped hole in a rock. Clever graffiti or smugglers symbol?

Thanks to SWR for arranging the trip and being an informative guide. It was great meeting new people and seeing an area I hadn't explored before.

An excellent day, thanks to Mark for taking us on a great trip through an area I didn't really know anything about. Great group too, hope to get a chance to take another run with everybody sometime soon. I'll post some of my pics when I get home tonight.
