Sand Ladder Mounting

I bought an '86 FJ60 already pretty well tricked out. Recently bought a pair of perforated aluminum sand ladders which appear to be Marston mat copies.

I'd like to keep the expedition vehicle cliché going so I'll mount the sand ladders on the side of the full length Wilderness roof rack - because that is the way it was done on the Camel Trophy vehicles....plus I do not want them inside with me.

Question is how to mount them securely. They are 12" wide with three rows of 1 5/16" holes spaced 4" apart.

If anyone has a successful design for mounting this sort of thing they're willing to share, I'd appreciate it.

Sand ladder mounts

Howdy,
I sometimes carry two off the Marsden type landing mats on my Pinz. They're kinda heavy but they work (5' long by about 15-18" wide-steel). Try to Google "4xRAC Hi-Lift Jack Mount". That's what I use to carry them on the flat sides of my Pinz.

They panels weren't as big or heavy, but when I had the AdventureDuo Series 80, it was done like this:



with big metal disks over the studs coming off the roof rack. Click the picture for more detail in the big view.

Sand ladder mounting

Jim,
I too, checked out the products from Okoff-road, especially their aluminum sand ladders. But... after figuring in the shipping, I decided that I couldn't afford their stuff. I was able to get the Marsden matting from a military surplus place about an hour drive away away from me ($22.00 for both, already cut to the length I needed) and the H-lift mounts for about $20.00 so I was pretty much good to go.
