Have you considered importing a 90 or 110 with a tdi? I have owned a few series and although they are great vehicles, an early "defender" can be bought for similar money and offer a lot more performance both on road and off. If a series is what your after, there is very little difference from the standard rover and a santana and I have seen several sell for comparable money so I wouldn't worry about value. The early diesel's are no speed demon though... If you need any assistance in importing your truck, feel free to shoot me a pm and I can offer you some tips as I do it quite often.

Did the 1980 Santana have disc brakes? What are the axles?
I think if you ever sold it, advertising it as a Land Rover built by Santana would do the trick. The people who knew what it was would be interested in the novelty and various differences, and the rest would just think it was a cool Land Rover.

I agree, I don't think you'd have any problem selling it on if you decided to.
You might want to consider bringing a few Santana specific spares with you when you bring it in, though you can probably find them here anyway. I know DAP Enterprises in Vermont had some customers who were Santana owners years back.

Spain built LR's under contract from LR and called them Santana's. I believe the contract ran out and they continued building. There are differences. I am no expert but that is the quick and short of it.

Notice the second pic of the back. The rear door does not go into the top. It stops at the flat seam. That is one of the differences.

The santana gearboxes are always in high demand ...
I think there are plenty of LR aficionados in the US that would jump all over the chance to own a genuine Santana; especially if the registration is already ironed out. Like any exotic, much is dependent on the state of the economy at the time of resale.

The new Sanatana is a nice looking truck. Not to mention the beefy LT85 5 speed box. When the previous owner of my truck decided to replace the box he replaced it with the LT85. It's probably the strongest part of my truck:sombrero:

There was a santana 90 for sale locally about a year ago. I never know what happened to it. Hopefully it made it go a good home.
