IMG_0922.jpegHello,
I have a problem to find the good rear shock for my van. It’s a GMC Savana 2500 2005. Conversion by Safari-Condo in a class B camper.
Weight: nearly 7500lbs (no water, no food,…)
GVWR: 8500lbs
Put an additionnel leaf (originaly 4 now 5)
All the shock who fit on this van seems to have a maximum of 7300lbs. So It’s bouncing.
Is any one have found a pair of shock with mots capacity to 8500lbs?
Fit and that doesn’t need to change everything under to fit.
I tried, Monroe Magnum, AC DELCO like the original, it is always bouncing.
Any suggestion ? Opinion? Here is my 5th Leaf.

Mine was horrible until I swapped the leaf springs for a Weldtec Designs leaf pack adjusted to the weight. Keep in mind mine is a 3500.

In regards to shocks, I used to have Fox shocks and they worked really good. Recently I put Monroe Gaz Magnum and they're ok for the price.

BTW, Fox shocks are supposed to be rebuildable but nobody in my area has the rebuild parts and I'm pretty sure anybody has the knowledge to do it (in my area and where I travel). So what's the point?!?

Sounds like it’s time to learn to rebuild them yourself… ;)

I still need parts to be able to do that. At the time (pandemic) they were back order. Plus, delivery of parts was extra complicated when I noticed this issue (Eastern Europe or Turkey... I don't remember exactly). That's why I switched to "regular shocks".

I do appreciate the "banter" but this is more of a tip than a complaint. These shocks are more suited to weekend warriors and people travelling North America than International Overlanders. If you do plan on using them for International travel, I suggest buying an extra rebuild kit before leaving.

I do have to say, they had better ride quality. 🫤
