Don, de-flaring and de-cladding an LX is even more of a chore than the Cruiser. A lot more holes to fill (a lot of guys weld the holes closed), IIRC, its more than 20 or so holes on an LX. Just something to ponder. Looking forward to the build though.

Welcome back! Can't wait to see it in your back yard.

Great to be back!

Took Atlas out for a day run to Knick River near Palmer. Had a BLAST! IT will be hard to give up the Lexus suspension - it rides so very nicely. The river rock was a non issue. Maybe I could get away with spacers??? Better call Slee...

After the river fun we went home and Atlas suggested that I paint the factory roof rack black vs. the body color it was. Took out the extension as it put the basket near enough the sunroof that it was loud. Turns out to be an improvement in my eyes.

Gotta do the springs soon. It has winter tires now and that is a no-no so I will want to buy the 285/75's ASAP I just don't think they will fit without a wee lift.

The days fruit:

285's no problem stock, I skipped the 285's and went straight to 315's and a 2.5" OME lift could not be happier. Mine is the same color nice job!

Do not take off the flairs and side moldings unless you really like filling holes. There are 20 holes on just one rocker. I would say 60 holes all together and that's conservative.

After some photo trickery (thanks Phil!), this is LexusAllTerrain's rig with the Schattenjager Special black out treatment -

I think I like this!

From reading all the posts, it looks like this is a popular color.

My 80 is the same, I think.
I love the Line X "black out" package...looks really nice.

I'm running on OME 2.5" heavy with FJ Cruiser rims.
Tire size is 285/70.

Head Gasket Test *PASS*

Yea! Used Napa Part number 7001006 which is mentioned on Mud to test the head gasket - at least if it is passing exhaust into the coolant. Very easy yet cool test. Good peace of mind too!

Just got a set of BFG ATs in 285/75's on a stock suspension. Ride is great and it is good to be one step in the right direction. Now I need to sell a rifle to get the ARB and the springs... Here are a couple pics of the BFGs for the record:

Nice! I have those same tires on my LX. The springs and ARB will make for a nice, well-rounded vehicle package.
