Scottsdale dealership is closing!

I've done quite a bit of work with these guys over the years. My mouth hit the floor when I saw this on the news this weekend. The original Scottsdale Land Rover Dealership is shutting its doors next month. I'm glad it isn't the one in North Scottsdale since I still do regular work for them. One more sign of the times...

Our local Land Rover dealership had gone used SUV lot, selling, among others, Jeeps. The same group that bought the local Toyota, Lexus, Scion, BMW, and who knows what else added Land Rover to the stable, and brought in a shipment of LR2s, LR3s, and Range Rovers. When I first saw the sale, I thought they were just buying the location and would move their upper-line vehicles in there, but it looks like they're going to make a go of it. Best of luck to them, and an interesting move in this economy- especially given Land Rover's somewhat shaky presence in North America.

I heard that the same "group" got hell from L-R corperate. because they were using the L-R lot for new Toyota over flow.
Also, Kendal is planning a new mega car mall, wonder if L-R will be up to being clumped in with all the other marquees

I doubt the previous owners were much more popular with Land Rover Corporate, given the way they were selling whatever they could on that lot. Let's be honest- how many Land Rovers do you think they could actually sell up here, given the current price structure? Certainly not enough to fill even that rather small lot.

Since Kendall owns most of that area, I expected a mega lot concept. It would be a shame to lose that building, since it's the only dealership in town with any real character. Then again, I'm partial to green...

I'm still hoping for a return of the Defender and a bare-bones Disco, both with small diesels and none of the fluff (my term) that characterizes the current lineup. They would actually be competitive then. Tata, are you listening?

I doubt they are listening, but if they are, I'd be interested too...

I bought my first Land Rover from Scottsdale Rover (95' Disco I) and they were excellent to deal with at the time of purchase, and ongoing after that with service and maintenance. They even installed aftermarket parts as requested. i thought they would last forever. Way better than Land Rover Charlotte in service quality.

I think the south store just had way too much pressure from the North dealership, which is larger, newer and has a much more impressive presence.

Just curious were these two dealers owned by the same company/person?
I know the two dealers here in Denver are owned by one company & still
very competitive.

With such a tight market this may be happening more & more throughout the
country?

Have you seen the suv Tata has on there web site? Very basic compared to U.S. standards....
Yes it would be nice if Land Rover would go back to basics with some of there offerings to the U.S. market.
