Other than the middle rear seat of the 4runner being uncomfy, why not just add a harness like this one?

That top one looks like erily simillar to the "death restraints" I had in my Dart. They even had somilar tabs to put them on. Yes it will hold you in but all the shock load is going to be transmited to the person wearing it unless the straps have some sort of controled elongation.

The second one looks spot on though with it's roll-up belt piece and I'm assuming the wiring to tell it when to clamp down etc.

In alot of cases, whiplash/head trauma can occur with No outward signs from the sudden deceleration of the vehicle. Sadly, alot of times in a Drunk driving accident the Drunk who kills someone lives because he/she just goes limp and sustains primarily soft-tissue damage instead of attempting to brace one's self and sustaining major internal injury or broken long bones etc. Lame... Those one's always hurt me for a few days afterwards honestly.... And seing that will never leave my mind.

Millions of family vehicles are equipped with unsafe lap-only rear seat belts ... yet retrofit shoulder restraints are unavailable or extremely expensive.

With E-Z-ON's UNIVERSAL HARNESS, your back seat passengers will enjoy the same level of protection as airline pilots and race car drivers.

* FMVSS Tested
* Costs hundreds of dollars less than dealer retrofits
* Easy to install and use
* Made in the USA
* Tilt-lock adjusters make the harness easy to adjust to any height
* Use 66-168 lbs. in passengers cars and trucks.
* Factory installed tether anchors can be used 66-80 lbs (unless other wise directed by the owner’s manual). For 80-168 lbs. the E-Z-ON tether kit must be installed.

The dealer is taking the LC I've been eyeing over to Toyota tomorrow for an inspection...

...a clean bill of health (or moderate list of work), may result in a new build for me to start next week.

Wish me luck, and thanks for all the help and advice.
