It is probably an HZJ motor. The 7x is a designator of the vehicle length.

70 being the shortest and 78 being one of the longest (although there are some double cab variants that are longer).

Think he will trade ;)

That is the new (just a few years old) mid-long wheelbase (Toyota's description, not mine) 76 series.

Here we saw the initial FZJ76 until it mutated into the current GRJ76. Other markets, such as Australia also have the VDJ76.

The side decals say 'Middle eastern Import" and with that front end I'd imagine it's NOT an HZJ under the hood if it's diesel but the VDJ or GRJ-if it's a gasser(edit: I see Tucan just pointed that out as well)... I still like hte look of the old 70 series Frnt end, but at this point I'm so desperate to have one of my own again that I'll take WHATEVER!!!!! Wouldn't mind the VDJ TD V8 either although the HZJ I6 was just fine my me... Great now I'm dreaming of 7X-series cruisers... And I had just gotten them out of my mind for a day or so...

The letters at the beginning of the model are typically the motor designation. For example the FZJ** would use one of the F series gas motors (i.e. 1FZ-FE in the FZJ80). An HZJ would use one of the H series Diesel motors. I don't have all of the classifications correct I'm sure, but the B, D and H series motors are all diesels if I'm not mistaken.

A short wheelbase two door appears in Toyota Japan's gallery of 70 series variants. But I can't find one advertised on the web sites of Toyota's importers in Central America. A special order?

I don't think it's a 76. It was really short.

This is the 76 with similar stripes.

I don't know if it is a special order, but I did see more than one.

This one was the nicest though - with all the right equipment.

I left a Expo card on it, maybe the owner will join here! He actually parked next to my LC later that day.

Reminds me of this lovely example in California except this one is the four door version...

I was lucky enough to see this in person.

Oh look, there is a smiley face.

I think its most certainly a FZJ71 or GRJ71 depending on which petrol engine it has. (HZJ71 if its a diesel, but I am not sure they make them in diesel anymore for the 71).

This below is a GRJ76 next to the FJcruiser. Both have the same engine, but the Fjcruiser puts out a bit more power.
