If you are using an external gps(bad elf or Garmin GLO) with an apple wi fi only iPad and want to use your off line maps there is a serious issue with the most recent iOS 8.3 update. Your gps will connect to your iPad but it will not transfer location data. Numerous posts online....which I dicovered after doing a software update to 8.3. My bad. I know better. I now cannot get gps data for over 40 gigs of map data I have downloaded. None of my navigation apps work (HD, garmin, Trimble, Gaia) Do not update to the newest software until there is a fix from Apple. Many folks unhappy, particularly pilots who rely on this setup for navigation.

Thanks Haven for the links.
I need a computer to update the GLO. I only have an Ipad. On route to EXPO and planning 1000+miles off road the next few weeks and up a creek with this issue. Really sucks. Various posts on subject say Apple unresponsive to issue. Really causes me to rethink Ipad as nav platform. May be time to return to single gps unit. Way too much invested in hardware, software and many hours of down loading maps.

Thanks for this info.

i would have been F'in annoyed this week if I traveled to the middle of nowhere for 4 days with no access to any of my maps.

Just spent 30 minutes with Garmin tech support. Long story short, ther is no fix and no firmware update. Garmin waiting for Apple to fix it.

Garmin no help

The response I got from Garmin, below.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I will be happy to help you with this. We are aware of the issue with the GLO not working correctly with iOS 8.3. We are working to get this corrected on our side as quickly as possible however the issue is caused by iOS itself and not the GLO working improperly. Because the problem was introduced by Apple in their last iOS update and because this does effect most third party GPS receivers that connect to iOS products the fix may come from Apple itself.

Please keep an eye out for any updates to the GLO itself and for any iOS updates your iPad may receive. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask.

With Best Regards,

Christopher

Apple no help

After long on line chat with "senior" customer service rep from Apple, they say it is Garmin's problem. This is incredible BS.
Anyone with any suggestions I'm all ears with how to deal with this major suck fest.
