Shipping Bikes across the USA

I tried to search for this- but any search with "shipping" just brings up all of the bikes being sold on here.

I have between 4-6 friends from the East Coast who are looking to have their bikes shipped to Colorado for a week of riding. The bikes are street legal dirtbikes, they don't have the time or desire to spend 3 days driving them here.

Any leads on a cheap shipping service would be greatly appreciated!

I'd start by talking to your local shop or dealer. Unfortunately I have no better info than that other than googling it.

I have had friends ship cars from the east coast and west coast to Oklahoma, so I would think bikes should be possible and maybe cheaper. I do know I haven't ever heard any of these friends rave about the level of customer service. Nothing bad, nothing good. I do know one of my friends paid the cheapest fare with a "we get it there when we can" delivery date. It took 3 months to go 1700 miles.
I can't remember if they dropped them at home or at a place where everybody with cars on that truck had to come pick them up.

I know it can be done. I shipped a bike from Alaska and I've shipped cars in the lower 48. If the link above doesn't do it, just google it. It could be as much as a car because most shippers like to crate them. That's why I said start with a place that sells bikes, I bet they'd give you the crate so the didn't have to dispose... I shipped a vehicle from Denver to NY for $1100, for ballpark, should be cheaper. Auto Drive Away did the vehicle, they may not do it but have a lead.

I had good luck finding a competent transporter for my sidecar rig using

http://uship.com

It's a very workable system, the two downsides being that you may get more responses than you know what to do with and some of the shippers will not have a lot of reviews. Pretty much guaranteed to find you the going rate, though.

I recommend using Dependable Motorcycle Shippers (DMS). Call Tom Evans at Las Vegas BMW motorcycles 702-454-6BMW. He'll turn you on to Mike who owns the shipping business. Very experienced guys. Super equipment. They are as competative as any I have used. They use very good equipment (read closed trailers w/air suspension) and strap everything down.

I am not an interested party to these guys or business. I just know they did a very good job transporting my ride.

Hope this helps. Nothing is more frustrating then having shipping issues and on-time deliveries. These guys deliver!

It's been about decade since I last shipped a Dirt Bike, but we shipped a lot of them with Forward Air Trucking.

Researched location of Forward Air's send and receive depots.
Call their agent to make shipping arrangements and pricing.
Strap bike and gear bag to a wooden pallet skid.
Trailer the skid to shipping depot.
Fly to receiving city.
Pick up bike with rental van/truck and/or help from a local rider.

Repeat for return.

We did this for a lot years, shipping Dirt Bikes and meeting up in a central location with locals and guys that flew in for group rides.

Forward Air had the best rates and would allow the bike to be shipped on an open pallet skid.
