Swings like butter, it is on a AtoZ fab mega spindle, part of their bumper builders kit. VERY strong!

A little late but better late than never. I built the bumper for our first Trooper and then in 2011 I switched it to my current Trooper. Last year a trip was planned thru Lochart Basin, Beef Basin and back to Moab via Elephant Hill which prompted me to build a fuel can carrier. The main hub started out as a heavy walled steel roller with bearings found on the road. Latch was from another Trooper's small rear door, since these pictures were taken I've added a spring loaded dead bolt to hold it back.

Ok, why's that? It's a nice bumper and all but I don't see anything different from a lot of the other ones that have been posted.
Oh, that's just me being impressed by W55's equipment and technique.

Truth is, I'm impressed by anyone who takes the time to build something themselves, no matter the outcome. Anyone who posts to this thread and shares their ideas makes us all richer for it.

Nice looking bumper! What are you using for a latch? Looks like an Allen wrench handle. Thanks for the info!

Got all my parts ordered for the MaxTerra style hinge, just waiting for the nut and flanged bearings. Also picked up a piece of 2" by .250 dom today. Can wait to get my show on the road!

Gotcha. No question it's a nice bumper and swing out.

Thanks guys! The handle is a 1/2" x 2-1/2" socket head bolt with a 6" long by 1" dia bar welded to it. Locks up tight with no rattles or risk of opening. I had looked at many types but this was in the kit I linked to and it works great.

The bumper is heavy and I had to extend it out almost three inches to accommodate the tub mounted rack to hold the tools. All this really sagged the springs. I had to add a helper spring for now. I build automated weld and cutting equipment as my job. When it is a little slow, I focus on our Jeep, LOL

Here is a pic of the tub rack:

The bumper also has some led light bolts in it, these are mounted in a 3/8" hole and the head is just under an inch, about 100lums each and I used four. Not driving lights really but great b/u lights.

Got all my parts for my MaxTerra style swing out. Just need to cut the tube down, cut some 1" holes in 1/4" steel plates for the mounts and figure out my stops. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1399700689.517629.jpg

Also to whoever has built this style, do the washers go on the outside only or inside against the flange bearings as well. Thanks! Everyone's bumpers look great! Can't wait to get line all buttoned up

The fold down table/platform is a really good idea, thanks for posting the pics! I like the split carrier too.
