So I was gonna buy a galaxy s2 tablet but then remembered I had an old galaxy note 3 phone. I figured I'd use it for a little while and make sure I wanted to go with the android side before making another purchase. I got the scosche mount from Best Buy for now, it wouldn't work on really bumpy roads but is doing great around town. It just uses a magnet taped to the back of the phone and then the mount is taped on the dash.

Off topic but I like those volt meters, great idea and a very clean install!
Ford F150. I used a ram mount attached to the dash tray, and ran a double USB extension behind the trim panels, plugged into the system in the lower center stack compartment. This charges the iPad, my Garmin Glo, and lets me play music through the vehicle without using bluetooth. The USB extension prevents me from having power cords dangling down the dash.

Post 86 has the first part of the setup (Samsung Note 4 on Verizon). This did OK, but a few times I lost GPS connection, and had a heck of a time getting it to link back in to the satellites.
The other issue is the small screen size makes mid trail destination changes difficult.
So I picked up a 10" tablet, maxed out the ram, and mounted it to the Proclip dash mount with a Ram X-Grip, as per pictures below. I also picked up enough of the Ram stuff to mount both in my other rig.
The weight of the tablet, is pretty much the max for the ProClip mount, and there is vibration on rough roads, but so far it's holding strong.
What I like is that both are below the hood line, so they don't interfere with vision through the windshield. That can be really important on challenging terrain.
I think eventually the tablet will mount to something more substantial in the Jeep (like a dash bar mount system). I really like how secure it mounts to the roll cage in the Scout.

I use a go pro mount.
udate, the go pro glue tap has failed. I did buy the go pro mounting kit off Amamzon and it glue tap is not an official go pro item.

Running a Galaxy Tab S2 in a RAM cupholder mount. For pavement nav I can use my phone as a wifi hotspot and use google maps. For offroad, BackCountry Navigator, and I try to create my GPS tracks for where I want to go ahead of time so they're already prepared when I get to the area.
Be careful with the heat/sun, the tablet can go on shock if is to hot, ask me how I know..I've been working on this flip-forward mount for the last few weeks and finally got it fitted into the Jeep today. Its mainly to mount an 8" tablet to use as a trip computer to follow roadblock tulips, and detailed OS map navigation, but will also serve to mount phones, CB mic and other kit that there is generally no place/space for in the WK. The tablet is mounted with Velcro in it's flip case so it can easily be removed for security.
It is still evolving and I need to sort out some wiring for USB power and other details but so far I think it will overcome the space limitations of the WK dash and minimise clutter.

My Note 8 will stop charging if it gets too hot, but that usually requires the sun to be shining directly onto it while also running CPU intensive apps. An aluminum heat shield should be relatively easy to fabricate to help keep the sun off your device.

Manfrotto single arm, a chuck of half round 80-20 plus a bunch of hand made parts..
I mount it on a E350 that i'm working on..
The 80=20 is mount it with 5 bolts, three from the back two from the front..
I'm going to run a samsung galaxy pro tablet (12.2") an/or a Nvidia Shield (portable just like the stand by at home to broadcast all kind of stuff with the kiddos on camping trips)
The arm has a massive range of movement and with the 80-20 mount it so solid, it moves nothing but still vibrates a little)
This part start life as a upper triple clamp for a cannondale lefty fork..
