I took I believe one inch and one and a half inch pvc pipe that fit perfectly inside each other at home depot. Then I drilled a number of holes on the inside poles and one hole on the outside pole for adjustability. I can slide a pin in it for support. I then capped off the top of the inside pole which is what rests against the awning. I drilled a hole in the caps and ran a long stainless steel bolt through it with two nuts at the top to cinch it down so it wouldn't unscrew. The tarp is just a cheap brown tarp from home depot. I can retract the poles and roll them into the tarp when I stow it on top of the roof rack.

Sure. Is this what you were looking for or did you mean during the build process? If you closely enough you can see the hitch is hidden and tucked a lot higher for a better departure angle. The third gens with hitches have a big problem dragging. Since I did that I havent dragged once.

Not me. I was in Iraq. Could be that my truck has an unknown twin somewhere, though.

Here is a couple (double posted the same one and can't seem to figure out how to fix it, sorry about that) of my 09 from today at Monti Zebio just north of Asiago, Italy in the Dolomites on the southern edge of the Alps. Just a few upgrades now (bttm of page) but plenty of plans for the future.

Just an add a leaf and the new shocks. Took it out to the Otay Truck trail today and had some fun!
