The airbag sensor is an accelerometer. so it only measures Δv, not how far in your bumper is pushed.

If the mounts are too rigid, too much energy can be delivered to the frame, potentially causing the airbag to deploy in a minor accident. I believe this is why the arb Tacoma/4runner mounts are corrugated, in order to absorb/diminish a portion of an impact's force.

That does not seem to be the case anymore. The ARB mounts I put on a 2006 4runner were not corrugated, nor were the Prado Sahara bar mounts.

Can you mount the Thule over a softopper? I thought about those but i wasn't sure... the ladder barely reaches the ground now. I'd like to keep the bed waterproof & still have the flexibility the ST provides... asking too much?

I never thought about mounting the rack over a softopper. I don't know if it'll work but I'm going to look into this for sure.

the bumper doesnt matter for airbags on most vehicles, its the sudden stop that triggers the airbag, or something like that, or thats how I remember it, and I could be wrong, heres a link to get ya going in the right direction:
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/car-driving-safety/safety-regulatory-devices/airbag.htm

Good info. Thanks. When I saw that the ARB claims to be airbag compatible, it made me question other bumpers compatibility. But according to this and what others have said it looks like it doesn't really matter since the sensor is separate from the bumper.
Sorry for the digression, now back to regular on topic discussion.

Here is my '95 pickup and my best buddies '95 Tacoma. Both college students at EOU. Went on a little camping trip for spring break, and had a blast. LOVE ALL the vehicles btw :)

Haha yea for sure. His is way cooler than mine, but being 19 year old college students we are on budgets. So I am waiting till i have my job this summer to invest in some new tires(much needed) and other things. But we love our pickups, and are proud of the bumpers we fabbed up. My little bro did the headache rack as a birthday gift to me. He did an amazing job. Not sure as to if I like it yet. But I'm rockin' it for him. And you sir have a very nice pickup, one of the best first gens I have seen. :wings:
