Sierra4x4trailers

First off, I have no e-cred here. I’ve creeped around using google as my primary search around here for years and am a member over on Ih8mud.com. I first heard of Sierra 4x4 Trailers after reading here on them, which led me to order. I joined this site tonight after I googled Sierra 4x4 to see if there were any recent threads concerning the same problem as me and, alas, found this one. Since I’m not the only one with these issues, I feel that it’s equally important to this ongoing discussion to share my experiences about one of the vendors of this small community.

I called and ordered an expo trailer from Chris Dickerson, Sierra 4x4 Trailers, on 3/12. The order calls/called for (I’m using both past and present terms here because I don’t know what the hell’s going on anymore) the trailer with a Maggiolina Safari, which was special ordered on 3/13. It was verbally communicated to me that the tent would be in by late April/early May, shipped to him, and then the trailer would be ready by the end of May. The total cost was just over $13,000 and he took $8400 down. I also ordered, directly, a Fiamma F35 awning, which I had shipped to his shop.

Over the course of 3 months, we haven’t communicated. I don’t want to bother his production time and I am/was sure he was busy as hell. I’m in a small business venture myself and am of similar age so I know all to well what some of the stresses these things share. In relation to my small business, an issue has recently arisen that has needed additional financial capital and, though a few to several grand may not seem much to some, it’s had an effect on my decision to move forward with the trailer.

On 5/15, I decided to contact Chris to see if there was the possibility of sliding another customer in to my spot if it was of No Hardship on him. I didn’t hear back.

On 5/22 I followed up with the same email, which got no response. On 5/23 I finally got him on the phone. I told him my situation and he said he actually had a couple people coming to the shop to look, one of which was wanting to get one soon. He said my trailer was a couple of weeks out. I said if it could work, great, but again, not if it was a hassle and only if it didn’t cause any hardship. He was seemingly understanding. In regards to the Maggiolina, because we live in bear country, my wife still wants the tent so we decided pulling the cord on the tent was worth the cost now. Chris said he was going to call Autohome and have it shipped directly to me. He said he’d call them and get back to me that day because he didn’t know whether it had arrived or not.

Another week’s gone by and I never heard back on the tent; being full-on camping season here I’m getting ancy on using it before the summer ends. I called and emailed him on Monday numerous times to no avail so on Tuesday I called Autohome and was informed that my tent has been with him for 5 weeks UNPAID for. Needless to say, I’m now nervous about the possibility that my trailer isn’t anywhere close to being a couple of weeks out (especially now after seeing that it appears to be his favorite line with others too), so I’ve called and emailed him several more times with no response.

Yesterday afternoon I get a CC’d email from Chris to Mike at Autohome saying to dropship the Maggiolina to me. Problem is, he’s got to pay for it now.

Like I said, I’ve got no e-cred here and I’m not out to see Chris fail because I know what he makes is top notch, but I think my situation of having no contact is a recurring issue. One can not make it in this community by ignoring paying customers like this, while continuing to take other peoples’ money. I’m not out to see who’s got the biggest rip off story either so unless one wants to call my thousand word rant BS, I don’t feel that having to show my invoice statement or what little correspondence we did have is vital at this point to further contribute to the notion that people like Joe and others are getting yanked around.

The thing that irks me is that after all the crap I found out yesterday concerning the tent and the lack of whereabouts of my $, along with his inability to answer one of my calls, respond to one of my emails or just tell me to GF myself because he’s busy building quality trailers, he’s got the time to post up promo shots of his rig on his Facebook account, assimilating that he’s just rocking out trailers to bring on the business, knowing that there’s people out there that are a little freaked out about where their money or their trailer is. So I’m not the only one it appears is getting blown off. It’s not the way you do business and in an even smaller venue, like this nitch of folks, word travels fast. Chris, if you’re reading this, all you have to do to put this fire out is sack up. People here and in the community are more than forgiving and many, if not most, work just as hard as you for their money and time. For you to call your customers “family” on the invoice and then do people who’ve paid you like this isn’t how you treat family or anyone else who have enough respect for you and your product to blindly give you thousands of dollars. It really would show that you have respect for others, both out there in the world that don’t know about EP and those in here that are trying to vouch for you and give you the benefit of the doubt.

I know in the case of Chris (as explained to me on my phone call with him) he uses a specific raw steel resource due to the quality. He refuses to compromise for a lessor quality and so it causes delays. Another example of something out of one's control.

You can make all the excuses you want about how using a specific steel resource and refusing to compromise is beyond the owners control but it just doesn't make sense. It's just a blame game. Steel has been around for a very long time. There are thousands of suppliers of raw steel. There is not a single supplier of quality steel that has stock anywhere? What a load of crap.

Beyond the raw material issue why is it that during the months and months of delay that he can't get his special raw steel it affects his ability to communicate with his customers?

I am not making excuses for Chris. I am simply stating that when the last thread started, I personally (didn't have to ... just did) called him to find out what the scoop was. He impressed me as a conscientious family man not trying to make excuses, but with a real sense of pride in his product and a commitment to make things right.
I have no personal stake in Chris or his endeavors. I know I enjoy my offroad trailer (a Conqueror) a great deal, and I hope he is trying to flush out the challenges and make good for these folks waiting to enjoy what i am aleady able to with my trailer.
What may seem small to guys like us may be a big issue for others.
Do you, Fish, have a trailer on order with Chris, or do you intend too

Dendy,

by personally retorting every claim or statement made by those on here that are frustrated with this business, both in paying customers and in those just interested, you actually do make excuses and it's getting quite old. You don't have a dog in the fight, just go do your Mod thing. Chris is a big boy and can come on here, I bet he's read every word, to defend himself. He doesn't need, nor do we, a champion for an antihero through your antics of claiming this guy's a family man, blah blah, committed to make things right. Give me a f'n break, quit the benefit of the doubt crap and I personally couldn't care less how many businesses You own, nor do I think it to be a matter of importance on this thread concerning people getting had by Sierra4x4.
Here's my number: 406.five seven nine. 8 zero 11. Call me and talk to me, mediator, I'm a family man. Let me IMPRESS you. It's just needless sunshine blowing up everyone's butt in here that we don't need from you. Back off and just mod. Let the people with the problems get out their frustrations out without you responding for Chris. If Chris has a set, he'll come back and respond.

Additionally,
I find it complete and utter BS that JoeJeep and Johnainny, who placed their orders in Oct and Nov of 2011 got passed up in favor of RFDGUY, who placed his order in Jan. RFDGUY, glad you got your trailer, but you slid in there underneath other's who paid and ordered before you did. Go take your trailer and use it.

First let me say ... doing my mod job involves keeping cool heads, and being the voice of reason. Personally speaking, I should have removed this thread when it started because basically, it, in and of itself, is a violation of the terms of use that everyone agreed to when they signed up to enjoy Ex. Portal. (no personal or character attacks), but I (and other mods) let it stand because we do indeed offer the opportunity for both sides to speak to their points of view.
Might I suggest you guys all start a Yahoo Group- "People that got shafted by Sierra4x4," and take your beefs off this board.
As was stated earlier, I simply got involved as a caring individual and community member, and called Chris myself just to see "what the heck" was going on. I was satisfied with his answers to me, but I don't have thousands of dollars tied up, so I didn't call with my 'back already up' about the situation.
You are new to this community and most likely joined specifically because of this thread, which is entirely a shame that you had to stumble upon this place due to this misfortune. I hope that you do indeed get your trailer ... or another trailer brand (which ever you can get worked out), and that you dig deeper into Expo and find the good qualities of this place and that it helps you learn and grow in your exploration of places remote and beautiful. I'd love to speak with you sometime, but not about this situation, rather when I am able to afford the leisure of coming to Big Sky Country and need some advice about where to park my rig and enjoy what your great State has to offer! One of my bucket list things is to take my kids to see Glacier National Park before there is no more Glacier!

I'm sorry for what you guys are enduring and hope you guys find some satisfactory resolution.
In the meantime, if this thread keeps growing into an angry mob, I'll lock the thread down, leave it for posterity, and we can all just get back to enjoying the good merits this place has to offer.

Most sincerely,
Dendy

Dendy,

don't take it personally, but locking the thread down would be very Totalitarian of you. There haven't been any personal or character attacks. I can back up all my statements with factual emails and an invoice, which I know Fresno demands to see in order for him to believe a word anyone else says. In fact, I'd say this is one of the more civil issue threads with a vendor. It needs to stay up. Chris needs to become aware if he's not already. Like I said, let him come on here and defend himself. You know he knows.
I didn't stumble on here, been lurking for years. Just had to chime in with my experience, which I think everyone should have the opportunity to know about. I'm not some Troll trying to instigate, but I do want people to know that I'm pissed, as well as others, and we HAVE a GOOD REASON to be so.

PS, thanks for the reply, sincerely. And Do call when you come to the Treasure State. Use to live outside Glacier, know it pretty well. Learning the Greater Yellowstone 'system now. Take care.

Fish,

Honestly, the mods are doing a great job here. Certainly not standing up for Chris. If they where standing up for Chris, they would have deleted the thread. This isn't a democracy. We are guests here.

Dendy, with few exceptions, I really don't see any personal attracts. Almost the opposite. Taking it down would diminish my confidence in expo being a community hub for balanced discussions. Chris chose to promote himself here when times where better. Now, he or someone at the company is using other networks to promote the products. You have to ask why the promotions and communication ended here. Certainly not for lack of interested buyers.

Removing this hurts the standards we all perceive expo maintains, and in a worse case scenario, further perpetuates (or enables) a vender to fail in delivering to the expo user.

Chris has put you in this uncomfortable spot. Personally, i say thanks for volunteering. Let's all hope Chris makes all this cure itself when everyone gets what they prepaid for.

Hi, Loren:
I 'edited' some of the personal attacks after exchanging PM's with the folks that were getting ... well, it's all smoothed over now ... anyway.
Thanks for the kind words.
iToaster ... I love it.

Let's do hope these folks get their trailers and can get out and enjoy life.

I gotta disagree. On the basis of a single phone conversation with Sierra4x4 Dendy continues to tout his view that Chris is just a "family guy trying to do the right thing." In doing so he discounts the experiences of a growing list of unsatisfied Sierra4x4 customers.

I see very little if anything said here by the Sierra4x4 customers that falls into the category of a personal attack. By and large they are merely reporting the facts surrounding their experience as Sierra4x4 customers.

From those customers we see a clear pattern:

  • Delivery commitments not met
  • Phone calls and emails not returned
  • Inability by Sierra4x4 to accurately forecast completion dates, even on a very near term basis

So, IMO, by continuing to give his phone conversation with Sierra4x4 greater weight than the facts as told by a number of dissatisfied customers he is clearly standing up for Sierra4x4. I think it's a legitimate question whether this behavior is being motivated by the commerical relationship between ExPo and Sierra4x4, or by the best interests of the members here. To me, unfortunately, there is at least the appearance of the former.

Please folks, just report the facts about dealings with Sierra Trailer so the Thread stays open.
.
Any other back-chatter between Expo members is counterintuitive to the goal of this Thread;
Helping current Sierra Trailer customers, that have made down payments and were promised a delivery date.
.
It's important to keep the Thread open because:
It allows current customers to report back with both GOOD and BAD factually dealings with Sierra Trailer.

There are lots of dollars at play here, it's in no one's best interest to do anything that may so damage Sierra Trailer, that they are no longer a viable business and can not complete promised orders.

Hopefully soon we will start to see some positive results from Sierra Trailer, so the Members that have been waiting for Trailers can report this progress.

Excelsior!
It is interesting that the OP started the thread for the purpose of generating support for a customer who had not gotten his trailer. I have an interest in that I almost bought a Sierra4x4 trailer and had always figured it could happen some day if I lost my current trailer.

I went back and counted the number of folks who reported up issues in this thread:

Johnainny
JeepJoe
MonkeyPlunger
RFDGuy
GallatinGateway60

Maybe a similar count could be performed in the other thread so we have a sense of just how many customers have had delivery issues? I don't think that this is a "mob" approach to the situation. Just the facts and no opinions, accusations or hysteria.

EDIT:

From the other thread:

Toymaster
DakDoc
95RRC
jrfII
toygoose
biskit
willywaxer
Gokracer1
fresno

Okay, so it was painful to read this stuff. What I noted is that Sierra 4x4 was responding to posts on a regular basis earlier in that thread then late last year I think the repsonses slowed down and people spoke of issues early this year so I think the overlad for manufacturing came in that time frame.

OPINION: I don't know how the quantity of names here compares to the total number of orders per year so there is no way to guess at percentages. Based on responses from buyers who posted, the quality of the product never suffered even though delivery time did. Communications sucked but delivery of product happened.

I'd go along with what has been offered: a one-man shop building a near-perfect product cannot be expected to build quickly and in quantity. It is sad to have to wait so long but if you want this product then be prepared and wait.

Damn ...... more then well said. You are a 100% right. He could defend or explain but he has chosen to let others explain for him. Not someone I would deal with if I was planning to buy. I think its called chickens**t in my world. I believe there is more here then meets the eye if you know what I mean. But hey....he's a nice guy. The nice GUY here is the one waiting for his trailer.
