First off, I have no e-cred here. I’ve creeped around using google as my primary search around here for years and am a member over on Ih8mud.com. I first heard of Sierra 4x4 Trailers after reading here on them, which led me to order. I joined this site tonight after I googled Sierra 4x4 to see if there were any recent threads concerning the same problem as me and, alas, found this one. Since I’m not the only one with these issues, I feel that it’s equally important to this ongoing discussion to share my experiences about one of the vendors of this small community.
I called and ordered an expo trailer from Chris Dickerson, Sierra 4x4 Trailers, on 3/12. The order calls/called for (I’m using both past and present terms here because I don’t know what the hell’s going on anymore) the trailer with a Maggiolina Safari, which was special ordered on 3/13. It was verbally communicated to me that the tent would be in by late April/early May, shipped to him, and then the trailer would be ready by the end of May. The total cost was just over $13,000 and he took $8400 down. I also ordered, directly, a Fiamma F35 awning, which I had shipped to his shop.
Over the course of 3 months, we haven’t communicated. I don’t want to bother his production time and I am/was sure he was busy as hell. I’m in a small business venture myself and am of similar age so I know all to well what some of the stresses these things share. In relation to my small business, an issue has recently arisen that has needed additional financial capital and, though a few to several grand may not seem much to some, it’s had an effect on my decision to move forward with the trailer.
On 5/15, I decided to contact Chris to see if there was the possibility of sliding another customer in to my spot if it was of No Hardship on him. I didn’t hear back.
On 5/22 I followed up with the same email, which got no response. On 5/23 I finally got him on the phone. I told him my situation and he said he actually had a couple people coming to the shop to look, one of which was wanting to get one soon. He said my trailer was a couple of weeks out. I said if it could work, great, but again, not if it was a hassle and only if it didn’t cause any hardship. He was seemingly understanding. In regards to the Maggiolina, because we live in bear country, my wife still wants the tent so we decided pulling the cord on the tent was worth the cost now. Chris said he was going to call Autohome and have it shipped directly to me. He said he’d call them and get back to me that day because he didn’t know whether it had arrived or not.
Another week’s gone by and I never heard back on the tent; being full-on camping season here I’m getting ancy on using it before the summer ends. I called and emailed him on Monday numerous times to no avail so on Tuesday I called Autohome and was informed that my tent has been with him for 5 weeks UNPAID for. Needless to say, I’m now nervous about the possibility that my trailer isn’t anywhere close to being a couple of weeks out (especially now after seeing that it appears to be his favorite line with others too), so I’ve called and emailed him several more times with no response.
Yesterday afternoon I get a CC’d email from Chris to Mike at Autohome saying to dropship the Maggiolina to me. Problem is, he’s got to pay for it now.
Like I said, I’ve got no e-cred here and I’m not out to see Chris fail because I know what he makes is top notch, but I think my situation of having no contact is a recurring issue. One can not make it in this community by ignoring paying customers like this, while continuing to take other peoples’ money. I’m not out to see who’s got the biggest rip off story either so unless one wants to call my thousand word rant BS, I don’t feel that having to show my invoice statement or what little correspondence we did have is vital at this point to further contribute to the notion that people like Joe and others are getting yanked around.
The thing that irks me is that after all the crap I found out yesterday concerning the tent and the lack of whereabouts of my $, along with his inability to answer one of my calls, respond to one of my emails or just tell me to GF myself because he’s busy building quality trailers, he’s got the time to post up promo shots of his rig on his Facebook account, assimilating that he’s just rocking out trailers to bring on the business, knowing that there’s people out there that are a little freaked out about where their money or their trailer is. So I’m not the only one it appears is getting blown off. It’s not the way you do business and in an even smaller venue, like this nitch of folks, word travels fast. Chris, if you’re reading this, all you have to do to put this fire out is sack up. People here and in the community are more than forgiving and many, if not most, work just as hard as you for their money and time. For you to call your customers “family” on the invoice and then do people who’ve paid you like this isn’t how you treat family or anyone else who have enough respect for you and your product to blindly give you thousands of dollars. It really would show that you have respect for others, both out there in the world that don’t know about EP and those in here that are trying to vouch for you and give you the benefit of the doubt.
