Silicone Rescue tape

They have been really pushing these at tradeshows, they were at SEMA and a recent gunshow here in SLC. They give you a demo by wrapping a short peice around your finger. It really does work, you can't possibly pull it apart at the seams, you have to either cut it or "roll" it off. It would probably by a good thing to toss in the spares bags.

We have had it around for couple years now. X treme tape by Duluth was the one we found. Once fixed/taped a windshieldwiper, and drove 3K miles, lots of heavy summmerstorms. Also use it to seal the plastic tube onto the oildipsticktube to check the CDR valve function (and it hold great, airtight for the test with very little tape.) Definitely in the trailfixkit. So is vetrap (similar stuff, for injuries).

Use it every day! That stuff is all over our aircraft. We use it for chafing protection on things, fill around wires so clamps will hold tighter, seal up connectors to help prevent water intrusion, etc. The stuff is great, and if you ever need to remove it it is very easy to remove (with careful use of a knife) and it leaves no mess behind, and wont stick to anything else. I use it instead of electrical tape at home now too (though that's not allowed on the planes).

Great stuff to repair a cord relief on a mic. It remains flexible. I am packing a roll with me all the time now.

I agree with the other posters; I've used it for years in the home and on my vehicles. It will patch a radiator hose, seal electrical wiring, fix the drain pipe on your kitchen sink.
After a few years it turns to kryptonite and you'll need to cut it off with a dremel...

$24.95 for a 12ft roll! :smileeek:

Luckily it looks like exactly the same stuff as any other (more reasonably priced) self-fusing slicone tape...

We used F4 tape in the USAF that was very similar to this. It worked very well for MANY uses. I remember we used some combined with an evian bottle body to make a plenum hose on a b-52...worked great!

I have some military grade of this. When I was in the Navy, I repaired a radiator hose with it on my Jeep and ran it for months without issue. Great stuff.
